Charlotte “CJ” Adams is KUMB ’s very own mascot. 13 year-old CJ is suffering from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and is currently undergoing a tough course of treatment.
CJ’s dad Paul, better known to KUMB forum members as “hammerdivone”, gave us this latest update:"Thanks everyone for all the new wishes and thoughts, much appreciated.
We ended up back at Basingstoke overnight on Tuesday to sort her out, followed by more platelets as they were low again, followed by the third chemo session. Fortunately the side effects seem to be lessening with regard to mouth ulcers which is good. She is still feeling sick though.
Friday saw her at Southampton for more drugs, she had the needle in the leg one today, which as you can imagine, went down a storm!! However the really good news is that her Consultant has said that if she feels up to it, despite being neutropenic (no immunity), she can go back to school. Obviously precautions have to be taken and she won't be there all day (just a few hours) but still a good step forward.
Reading back I forgot to mention that the Wig lady did visit her and she is the proud (?) owner of one full wig, and one that fit inside a hat - they look really good. Unfortunately her hair started coming out the day before yesterday and so this morning she took the plunge and had it a cut off, well all but 1cm. She has such a small head and face and with her big eyes I think she looks lovely (but then I am her Dad of course –(I hope?!).
Hmmm, me and my big mouth again. After two 'reasonable' days on Thursday and Friday, Saturday and today have been horrible. The tummy pains are still there and after most of the day at hospital today they now say it is gastritis caused by the drugs. So extra Gaviscon etc. to try and combat that.
Poor thing is really feeling down and not feeling good and it's unlikely she'll get to school on Monday like she wanted to, we'll just have to see how she is in the morning. Her hair is really coming out a lot now so that's not helping either.
We all feel a bit down and helpless too at the moment because there is nothing we can do for her, except fill her hot water bottle and keep giving her the drugs and give her loads of love and hugs which we're doing.
Here's hoping for a better week!"
We’ll be keeping you up to date with CJ’s brave battle as the weeks progress, including hopefully a few words from CJ herself if and when she feels up to it. Meanwhile you can send your greetings and best wishes to CJ and her family at the following address:
