KUMB Writers' Player Of The Month August-September 2006

Yes we know we're well into October but we had to lock Gnome away until he'd finshed working on the spreadsheets. It was only after three days we realised we hadn't given him a computer.....

Well it's been an interesting start to the season on all sorts of levels. In amongst all the talk of transfers and takeovers it's easy to forget that there have actually been a few games of football. And wherever West Ham have been so have our intrepid band of match reporters handing out precious marks to the players.

As you might imagine, from the team's uncertain start to the season, the player marks have not been on the high side and no player has averaged over 7 over the course of the first two months of the season. In third place, having had a sound start to the season interrupted by injury lies John Pantsil with an average mark of 6.33. In second place lies another recent injury victim Anton Ferdinand with a mark of 6.40.

Tellingly, the winner of our first monthly award of the season will also be seeing more of the treatment room than the pitch over the next week or two. Limp forward Lee Bowyer who currently tops the standings with an average mark of 6.45.
