Re: Declan Rice

:cried: I thought the reason we ‘had’to move was to sort out the FFP? Apparently we sell out 60k every week biggest attendance in England! Bar the red Mancs, we’re next level don’t you know! What a load of old pony, next level my arse and 140 net are you sure? Who was it they spent that on? Are any...

'stone hammer wrote: Thu Mar 28, 2024 5:35 pm Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't it because we overspent significantly in the 22/23 season (£140 million net spend, roughly) and had to rein it in a bit for FFP?
Transfer market has it at €160m so sounds about right

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

We need a left-sided forward/winger most urgently, imho. I think Kudus will have made that role his own by the end of the season which shifts the focus to a striker. Striker, centre back and two, preferably starting, fullbacks Assuming Cornet isn't bouncing back then I'd start on wide attackers.

Re: The kids are all right

Enlighten me please. What is a promising 20yo academy defender supposed to do in League 1 that qualifies him to be considered PL standard? I would say he couldn't, it's more or less the kiss of death. He can show he is ready for the physical battle of men's football. He can also show the mental str...

He sees them at that level every time they train with the first team.

The whole discussion basically boils down to whether you trust the manager.

Chelsea will not breach FFP unless something unexpected happens but it is a very fine margin. I cannot say anymore than that :hush:

Re: The kids are all right

No idea if Potts is good enough for first team action. His stats for Wycombe, and of course I know statistics don't show the whole picture, of 2 goals and 2 assists aren't overly impressive for a midfielder' But Downes should certyainly have benefited from regular edxposure in Southampton's team an...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

I don’t think home grown will affect us too much if we decide on a smaller squad. If we qualify for Europe they’ll be tempted to get the numbers up but that feels unnecessary under Moyes anyway There is still potential for value amongst home grown players. That Archie Brown from Gent that we were l...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Mavro linked to Inter. Aguerd historically linked to AC Milan. Could we make a profit on the two combined to reinvest in a couple of new first choices? Could explain Ogbonnas new deal so we have 2 consistent players at CB. Not sure selling to Italian clubs is the way to release money, but I’d be su...

I only saw the first half yesterday, but it seemed that the execution of that wealth of talent was a bigger issue than anything tactical.

Re: England -v- Brazil (C4 from 1900)

Southgate’s favourites are his problem, but this has been the case for as many England managers as I can remember. Given how infrequently an international manager gets to have his squad together I can understand why they “have their favourites”. You cannot pick solely on form when you only get a fe...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Isak is Haaland's replacement at City, I reckon, if the latter goes to Real. Failing that, I would expect him to be much more likely a target for a routine qualifying CL team. He's reasonably young, strong and skilful. And they can afford to have a second striker of a similar quality for the half o...

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2024

I’ve never understood the concept of buying a sub or a squad player. Everyone we buy should be challenging for the shirt either on current ability or eventually based on potential. Otherwise what is the point? Do a job, decent option off the bench etc is fine when talking about retaining current squ...

Point of order. They are all good players. They've been assessed and coached by pros for years. Whether they are good enough to make the leap into the PL is the question. Fine margins and all that. Exactly. The key for me is Wilko’s pathway point. It is having a plan to say X and Y may be good enou...
