Re: Today i bumped into...
Michael Holding at The Oval, had a couple of nice words with him outside the Alec Stewart gates. We were on a stag day and he wished the groom "best of luck for the future sir" in that gravelly Jamaican accent. Seems to have shrunk since his playing days, no way near the reported 6'3" now.
Then later in the evening, Andrew Castle in The Bedford pub, Balham. Didn't want to have a chat, probably understandable as we were nearing pint 15. :ehthingy:

Re: Today i bumped into...
Gary Lineker was on the London to Manchester train yesterday. I had to go through a first class carriage to use the toilet (our nearest was out of order) and I noticed him concentrating on his laptop as I walked back to the carriages the commoners are squashed in to. I was going to say hello but left him to it. One of the Lads quipped that someone should chuck a bag of Walkers at him.

I couldn't do it. Lineker's goal against West Germany at Italia 90 is one of my earliest football memories (I was 10 at the time) and he's always been a hero of mine. He gave me a cursory glance as I had my home shirt on but I just left him be.mushy wrote:You Northeners are full of so much fun
Interestingly, the first thought I had was to come on here and tell everyone who I'd seen.

Was trying to take a picture of my boy and myself at the Olympic Stadium last night without much success and a woman in the row behind me leant over and asked if she could help.
Turned out it was Anne Diamond, of ex-GMTV fame, who was there with her boys.

Big one for me this. Last night I managed to get backstage at the Dexy's gig in Cambridge and met three originals. Pete Williams (who I've met briefly before) who is a happy go lucky type in that way that only Brummie's seem able to do. Big Jim Patteson who'd played a blinder that evening so was happy to tell him so and Kevin R. Anyone whose followed them will have know his troubles (I was there at Reading) so I was more than happy to just shake his hand and give my him best 'hope your OK' look. Try and get to see them in this tour if can. It's not your usual gig. No-one does 'lament' and 'joyous uplifting' in the same set quite like them.

Chris Hoy's dad was at Hamilton Hall last night sinking (quite) a few beers. Doesn't seem as big as he looked on TV waving his Real McHoy flag in the Veldrome.
