Re: Little things that irritate you
This is probably a big thing actually but, builders.
While you can only loosely describe it as a profession, it nevertheless does seem to attract the terminally inept. I have the good fortune not to pay taxes in the UK any more but, there's a part of me that feels that Balfour Beatty asking for another fifty million (and getting 36 million of it) even though they agreed to do the job for £154million is absolutely unacceptable.
I'm pretty sure that the Pharaoh wouldn't have stood for this sort of b*llocks from an Egyptian pyramid builder - if he'd been asked for an extra sack of myrrh or whatever, the builder would have been impaled on a red hot scaffolding pole or thrown in a pit of asps or something.
Is it something to do with the educational system? When I was at college, the civil engineers seemed to spend the first year ****ing around with theodolites and the next three learning to say 'erection' without adding 'fnarr fnarr' or smirking.
They're all c**** I tell you!

The amount of times I type 'teh' rather than 'the' in emails. That and 'Kind reagrds' rather than 'Kind regards'.
Seems to be some form of typing dyslexia, which seems to manifest itself mostly in those two words for some reason.

You're not alone and it's not just those words I find it happens with.Whitters wrote:The amount of times I type 'teh' rather than 'the' in emails. That and 'Kind reagrds' rather than 'Kind regards'.

I don't think it's typing dyslexia, I put it down more to the fact that nobody learns to type properly any more. If they did , then the default position of their fingers would probably lead to less mistakes.
Re: Little things that irritate you
I often repeat the same small word twice as well.......especially the
and typing eb instead of be is a common one for me as well
it's odd that I repeat certain mis-spellings when typing but not when writing
although I guess same is true in the reverse when I'm writing a word with an a followed by a g and I go for the curly bit on the g too early

LA Fitness Gyms
The never ending free 3 or 5 day trials. The gyms are constantly rammed with people on free trials. If the membership didn't include free access to the squash courts I'd start looking for a new gym.

i used to do all these mis-typing mistakes and more. But I recently switched to a curved/split keyboard and all the mistakes seem to have stopped. I tend to only make 'genuine' typos now.

Re: Little things that irritate you
This is not limited to construction industry and is not necessarily down to the engineers under-estimating. It is very common for the engineers to come up with a price that the bid team deem to not be a "winning price" and therefore they deliberately bid low. This is done on the basis, once the contact is awarded and work started, the purchaser would rather pay extra than cancel and start the process again. Unfortunately this seems to be a common approach taken with government work. We have lost a number of bids over the years where we have gone in with what we believe to be a realistic price but the winner has gone in as low as 50% of our price. Then over the next couple of years though various methods they have probably ended up charging more than our original bid.Clucking Bell wrote: there's a part of me that feels that Balfour Beatty asking for another fifty million (and getting 36 million of it) even though they agreed to do the job for £154million is absolutely unacceptable.

Re: Little things that irritate you
Yes I was using autocorrect, at least I thought I was.....just looked at it, it was ticked to be on, but clearly wasn't working. Just unticked and reticked it, added 'reagrds' and now it seems to be working for that and 'teh' now. How bizarre......Hammers80 wrote:

Re: Little things that irritate you
c**** setting off fireworks after midnight on a work night.
Had it two nights in a row and not just the odd banger a full 5 minutes or more of flashes and bangs!
I'd just got off to sleep, the dog went ape and nearly put me through the roof.
I presume it was something to do with Diwali, I don't care religious festival or not, if you must have fireworks set them off at a reasonable time. c****!

Re: Little things that irritate you
The relentless stream of emails, phone calls and aggressive marketing trying to screw just a bit more money out of you than you've got. For example, I renewed by bike insurance the other day, it was just over £200 (I've got two bikes) and then a couple of days later a call from my insurance saying for an extra £15 a month, I can protect my no claims bonus and for a further £10 a month I can reduce my excess should I need to claim. This came after I haggled the initial quote down by over £100 - so they were going to rip me off for £100 straight off the bat.
Then I've got EE ringing me up offering me discounts on tablets and mobiles for the rest of my family. f*** off, concentrate on getting decent coverage rather than the piss poor service you offer now.
Then Talk-Talk trying to get me to move to a more expensive package to improve my connection speed
Then the ****ers in the petrol station asking me if I want coffee, sweets or any other ***** that their trying to flog that month
Then the ****ers in WHSmith asking if I want a humungus chocolate bar for £1.50
Then an almost constant barrage of emails with special offers on everything from Viagra to computers
Then the text messages and phone calls offering me everything from house insurance, cheaper electricity, PPI claims, injury lawyers etc etc.
f*** OFFFFF !!! IF I WAS INTERESTED I'D RING YOU. I'M NOT SO I HAVEN'T RUNG YOU, SO KINDLY RETURN THE FAVOUR AND DON'T RING ME!!!!! EVER YOU ****ing VULTURES.

You sound like you need to relax. Holland & Barrett have got an excellent promotion on essential oils at the moment. And perhaps while you're there, you could pick up some vitamins for yourself and the rest of the family - they're on 4 for 3 at the minute.Greatest Cockney Rip Off wrote:The relentless stream of emails, phone calls and aggressive marketing...
Perhaps you could consider a spa day to help with relaxing. And for only £35 more you can get an upper back and neck massage. Why not upgrade to the full weekend for just £150 extra...

Or perhaps you could just eat well, so wouldn't have to bother with all that malarkey.....Smonnie wrote: Holland & Barrett have got an excellent promotion on essential oils at the moment. That's a particular irritation of mine, of which Holland and Barrett is the prime example. Health food shops that have half the shop dedicated to supplements, herbal b*llocks, and all the muscle building whey protein muck favoured by meat heads. Pretty much always at the expense of having any decent healthy food to buy
I've been in Holland & Barrett's the size of a small supermarket, and found little I wanted to buy (that I couldn't buy in any supermarket), yet the tiny kiosk down the alleyway that doesn't bother with a raft of supplements has loads of interesting, tasty and healthy stuff to buy
Don't get me wrong, there's a time and place for supplements, but all too often they seem to be instead of a selection of good food choices, rather than as a supplement to them...

PPI calls.
Just f**k off.
Had one yesterday who refused to believe I had never had a loan.
According to him everyone has had a loan. EVERYONE!
He then told me he wasn't selling anything, to which my reply was you are selling a service. Eventually he agreed he was and then umm'd and ahhh'd when I asked how much they charged for their service and it was 30%!!
