Thanks for the explanation DL. I still don't understand why the heaters need to be on full blast though. If you put your hand next to them you can feel the heat coming off of them. As I say they tend to be off in winter. My theory is they want to deter vagrants from overstaying their welcome.

We used to do it to help keep the engine cool, but that was on manky old Leyland Titans, I'd like to think things have improved since then.........

Always wanted to experience Jury service.
Well today was my first day of the two weeks. Lots of waiting around, but once it gets into it I found it very interesting. Can imagine it depends on the case however.

This goes well with the thread: Are you even allowed to mention that you're on jury service to people outside of work and close family, let alone post it on an internet forum?

Yep, you are but can't give any details of the case out to anyone outside the court. Posting details of the case on social media can land you in prison ...prince_huggy wrote:This goes well with the thread: Are you even allowed to mention that you're on jury service to people outside of work and close family, let alone post it on an internet forum?

There's been several other cases of jurors being jailed for similar offences.

Wangled my way out of Snaresbrook ten years ago as I'd just moved up to Leicestershire to a new job. Was surprised how easy it was to get out of, just one phone call and the bloke said 'ok' and that was that.
I've never fancied doing it tbh.

My mum managed to get out of it with just one letter from her employer which really surprised me. I'll probably never get picked because of my previous but it'd be fascinating I reckon.vietnammer wrote:Wangled my way out of Snaresbrook ten years ago as I'd just moved up to Leicestershire to a new job. I tried to get out of it as I am in retail security and could have been a witness in a case involving potential people in my case. They refused.Glad they did,as I said, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My mate declared his prison record, and still had to do it! I honestly thought that was a no no.
But he did it.He got a few weeks after the poll tax riots ,still not sure that was right him doing jury service.

What would happen if a party gains a majority in the commons but their leader does not win a seat?
I expect party leader would not become Prime Minister, but could there be ways around this?

I expect the party leader would be elevated to the peerage sharpish.

It's been a while since the PM has come from the Lords. It'd be interesting to see, I suspect the public wouldn't stand for it - although of course that would depend heavily on who the person is, what party they're from and if the right wing media like them.

I think you may have misunderstood me.What I meant ,i feel he was mistakenly allowed to do it, under their rules.I have no problem with the fella doing jury service,as..warp wrote: agreed, everyone committing a crime should be branded for life.
A. He is my friend
B. I believe in the rehabilitation of prisoners. Nonces aside.
Hope that clears that up.

Not that I like them but shouldn't everyone be able to rehabilitate?woodgreenspur wrote:B. I believe in the rehabilitation of prisoners. Nonces aside.
