West Ham Utd 0 Portsmouth 0 (15/11/08)

Post by davids cross »

Ok, here we go, never started one of these before.

Cole back from suspension, I'm sure Zola will put him back in but unless we go 433 it will be at the expense of young Freddie.

Any thoughts on team and formation ?

Don't think it matters we will get stiffed again, with Mini Judas back to haunt us scoring the winner in injury time

1-2 to Portsmouth

Not optimistic right now

We will have to score at least 3 goals to win and I can't see us scoring three goals let alone them conceeding 3. So draw you own conclusions

I think we need to go back to the 4-3-3 formation as from what I have seen in last few games we were playing better using that. and despite people saying we havent got good enough players to play that formation I dont think we have got good enough players for a 4-4-2 as our wingers are ****.

Based on who who I think is fit...............

---------------------------Green--------------------------

Neill----------Upson---------Collins------------Ilunga

--------Collison--------Parker--------Bowyer----------

---Sears-----------------------------------------Bellamy

----------------------------Cole------------------------------

Pompey line up yesterday
James, Johnson, Campbell, Distin, Belhadj, Pamarot, Davis, Diarra, Kranjcar (Utaka 75), Defoe (Hughes 90), Crouch (Kanu 69).
Subs Not Used: Ashdown, Kaboul, Diop, Armand Traore.

If Upson is fit and a fully fit Cole plays I expect us to get something out of this.

Pompey playing 4-4-2 so a lot more open than the team that beat us at home last year. Cole meanwhile took Campbell and Distin to the cleaners at Fratton. Collins against Crouch.

Us

.................Green
....Neill - Upson - Collins - Ilunga
Faubert - Parker - Collison - Boa morte
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,...Cole - Bellamy

Subs: Lastuvka, Sears, Mullins, Etherington, Davenport(or Tomkins), Reid, Widdowson

LBM must play 90 - or Reid on for him - to help plug the left side leaks which Johnson will exploit. Etherington NEVER does well against Johnson.

Their LB is very good going forward as well. Mullins must come on at about 60/70. DDM and Lopez nowhere near squad please Fonzie. Happy Days!

Exact team I would put out. This is a MASSIVE game for us now. We have to get something out of this, three points is a must. Not just for the result but for confidence and a bit of breathing room as well. With the fixture coming up this is a must win to be honest. You just know the script though. Defoe scores the winner etc...

Green
Neill - Collins - Upson - Ilunga
Behrami - Collison - Parker - Boa Morte
Cole - Bellamy

Subs: Lastuvka, Mullins, Faubert, Bowyer, Etherington, Sears, Tristan

Green

Tomkins - Collins - Upson - Ilunga

Behrami - Collison - Mullins - LBM

Cole - Sears

SUBS: Lastuvka, Neill, Lopez, Parker, Bowyer, Bellamy, Tristan.

If Zola drops Sears we'll know he's a weak little man who only panders to the big names. Sears has outperformed Bellamy for 2 games now and has outscored him 1 to 0 and has also created more chances aswell. Drop Bellamy not Freddie, be a man!

Mullins - surprisingly capable of wearing our shirt and running for 90 minutes - would be nailed on in my first eleven. Otherwise, Diarra will take control of the game and we'll be chasing shadows.

If we haven't got Upson back, I'd put Tomkins on Crouch - working on the assumption of a 4-4-2 - and basically tell Ginge to clumsily land on Lil' Arnold and knock the wind out of him early doors. Not the most sophisticated method of dealing with two part-time internationals, but needs must.

Zola's going to start losing the crowd, if he puts Faubert on from the start again. I might venture the same point about Di Michele. However good he may have been in the past, he aint cutting it in the Prem in winter.

I also feel that Collison should be perservered with in the centre of midfield.

Cole coming back - against the tall but aging Pompey CB's - is obviously a must.

This is an absolutely 'must not lose' game. I can't however predict a victory - memories of Saturday are still too fresh...

I'd be careful how you answer that...

You'd definitely have left early for that train.

Can't say I like playing Bellamy down the wing - think he needs to come bursting through the middle. Agree Collison deserves to keep his place and seriously hope Upson is back - Faubert in defence is a disaster

First off Bellamy has one goal this season, Sears has 0, not the other way around. :?
Secondly, Behrami is still injured.
Thirdly, which one of those defenders do you suppose plays right back? Or will you just chuck some centre backs on and tell em to sort themselves out?
