Unless I'm blind there doesn't seem to be one. I say pick a strong team. Go for a confidence boosting win. Although maybe give Stech another go between the sticks.

Re: West Ham vs Sunderland Match Thread
Two choices, pick the starting eleven go for the win and the confidence, or play the kids and make sure we are ready for a Spurs side with their minds elsewhere.

Re: West Ham vs Sunderland Match Thread
I'd not let Green & Cole anywhere near this one..
Play Barrera, get Da Costa & Upson playing together again, play Obinna, play Piq, play Behrami, play the same Full Back's as Saturday too..
Maybe leave Parker out, maybe..
We'll lose whatever..

Re: Sunderland v West Ham Utd: match thread
Wonder what sort of side Sunderland will put out . Probably not their strongest team, but in Asamoah Gyan and Bent they have a couple of top strikers to cause our defecnce some real headaches if they play

I'm hoping to see Barrera and Piquione together, and Dyer given a full 90 mins.

Re: Sunderland v West Ham Utd: match thread
I would give a few of our first teamers a rest, but I would still pick a strong enough squad to win. Something like this...
-----------------------------------------------------Stech-----------------------------------------------------
-------Faubert-----------------Da Costa-----------------Ben Haim----------------Gabbidon-------
--------------------------------Behrami----------Noble----------Hitzlsperger-----------------------------------
-------Dyer-------------------------------------Piquionne-------------------------------Barrera---------------
Subs:- Green, Reid, Upson, Parker, Cole, Boa Morte, Obinna.
If its true and Hitz is finally fit then he definately has to have a run out. If he isn't then I would pick Boa Morte instead. If the rumours a true Dyer was left out because he still isn't 100% match fit then he has to start, otherwise its blatantly obvious he had a bust with Grant. Its also a chance to see how our team copes without our underperformers i.e. Green, Upson and Cole. Give Jacobsen the night off and leave Parker and Obinna on the bench just in case.
I think that side is more than capable of beating Sunderland.

Part of me says sacrifice the game so we are ready for saturday by playing the fringe players.
But f*** it, Football is all about cup runs, lets go for it, I would go with
Green
Jacobsen Da Costa Upson Gabbidon
Behrami Parker Noble
Barrera Piquione Ribena

Re: Sunderland v West Ham Utd: match thread
Decisions, decisions...was thinking along the lines of Stech, Faubert & maybe even Brown until now, but maybe there's more value in going with the same back five as against Stoke. Would like to see Hitz but no idea whether he's fit, and not sure what's happening with Dyer, so it's 4-5-1:
Green; Jacobsen, Da Costa, Upson, Gabbidon; Barrera, Parker, Noble, Boa Morte, Obinna; Piquionne.
Parker will get a rest when he picks up his 5th (and 10th) bookings, so no night off for him. Depending on their fitness, might be an idea to replace Jacobsen and Obinna after an hour, so they're in top nick for the Spuds.

I'd be suprised if it were wise for Dyer to play 90 mins after missing out at the weekend. But if he is fit I'd like to see him play at least a part in the game.speculator wrote:I'm hoping to see Barrera and Piquione together, and Dyer given a full 90 mins.

Re: Sunderland v West Ham Utd: match thread
Play Stech or Boffin and let them know if they play well they will start in the Prem...
Do we play Cole and hope he gets goal? Or play Barrara/Piq/Obinna?
I dont expect Upson or Dyer to feature...

Re: Sunderland v West Ham Utd: match thread
Sunderland have Scousers away next in the league and are on 6 points. So maybe take a view, that thats a throw away and put out a full strength team. A draw for us could be a compromise, get a replay, stay in the competition and get ready for Spuds who have chump league game the following mid week. League more important at the moment and still have the FA Cup. Start Stech, Da Costa, Tomkins, Reid, Faubert, LBM. Rest Parker, Noble. Don't need any more yellow cards. Cole on the bench.

Re: Sunderland v West Ham Utd: match thread
Would play a reserve keeper here and maybe even give some of the other reserves a run out.
Would imagine that this may also be Bruce's approach.
Doubt that we'll get through this round, but our record at that ground isn't too bad in recent seasons.
Main thing, though, is that we have a fully fit first eleven for next weekend.

Give the players a rest 5 games in?
West Ham are about cup runs. Without them, we have nothing.
