You could argue that this year, but certainly not in the prior two years. But your opinion have hardly changed about him since then.
I have never thought much of him as a player. He was basically our only striker for the past 2 seasons and managed 10 and 12 goals. Some people seem to think that is a impressive return for a teams only/main attacking threat but I personally don't. He obviously looked decent at points during these two seasons but to be honest all big black strikers do look decent at times. Consistence is the key for any player and that is something he will never find imo
I don't know if this has been mentioned. But was anyone else wondering why Dyer wasn't replaced like for like with Barrera and instead we played Piq (only player who looks like scoring last few games) out of position to put another big lump in the team? £4m to not even play him is odd.
How many shots has Obinna had without a PL goal? 60 odd I reckon.
Oh and a half empty Olympic stadium with a running track would create no less of an atmosphere.
Was anyone else jealous that Newcastle had a keeper that actually came (and got) 90% of our crosses?
I was impressed with Andy Carrol, as much as a scumbag he is, he is probably someone we need right now. Always plays with hunger and grit, working class boy from the streets, gives everything on the pitch, and did not bottle a challenge.
As a Newcastle fan i thought we could have lost by any number of goals after the start you got off to. Thankfully we seemed to wake up, but i must admit W Ham seem to be lacking confidence.
So long as there's 3 teams below us at the end of the season, i hope you turn your season around. I always enjoy away games at your place. A bit of questionable stewarding i thought, when they took a Toon fan out through the West Ham fans. Not doubting his offence, but they had the whole stadium to choose from. Obviously a few Hammers gave him abuse, but a few missiles came down from the upper tier. That, in turn caused a few Toon fans to react and spill towards the front, and suddenly they had almost turned a nothing situation into a major incident. The atmosphere was more hostile after that.
Stayed in that Ibis hotel, along Barking Rd and was impressed by the chip shop on Barking road, think it had a green front, across the road from Gala bingo, where we stopped off on the walk back.
As i say, i hope we both stay up.
Hambrosia Stu said the thing I thought (p 20).
There are two very important areas on the field in front of the penalty area. In front of theirs we had our long balls for Cole, and they were not good enough. If he eventually took care of one there was absolutly noone in place to pick up the second ball. In front of ours we left acres of space, backed off and gave them all the time in the world to find good passes. A guy we really missed was Hitz!!!!
A real pity that national German game....
Parker man of the match? Nah, the only really good one out there this time was Gabbs!
