The importance of having a midfelder who can tackle and break play up should not be underestimated, you can get away with having a midfield with no pace if you have somebody sitting there winning challenges, breaking play up, winning headers etc etc,
up until the last couple of games we have had a midfield with zero pace and not any of them being able to tackle which is a recipe for disaster and is why we have being gettin overrun in midfield, whether it is o'brien or diopp, we must play with a holding midfielder from now on! moving nolan futher back into central midfield is a wise move from sam and i hope he sticks with it, alot of people saying he can't play there but he spent a large chunk of his bolton career playing there, and to good affect, for me it gets him more involved rather than being stuck in no mans land between the midfield and strikers although he can play there alot better than he has and has just been off form and possibly a little overweight!

It was interesting to see that when Nolan is called upon to be a central midfield player and doesn't have to support the attacker, he looked much better. The same can be said for Diop who played the role of protecting the back four very well.

We didn't leave gaping holes defensively whilst Nolan waited for a taxi to get him back down the pitch. Diop in front of the back four allowed him to fill in if our central defenders got pulled wide to cover the full backs.

Good day at the office.

Spot on Bristol .

Providing his legs last , I reckon Diop is a shoe in to start most games .Nolan too was much better in a different role yesterday .

As it is said you can only beat what is on the pitch in front of you and once again we never looked like losing control of the game.

There was an improvement all round and we tried to keep the tempo going.

What was pleasing was there was some decent delivery into the box this time. Taylor put over one peach in the first half and Faubert a couple apart the cross to Carew. Let's face it their keeper stopped at least five certain goals that I can remember.

I could even forgive Carew with his attempt at goal when Baldock was screaming for it. For once we actually had two West Ham players who wanted to score rather than nobody. If Carew keeps playing like that Carlton is going to have to up his game when he comes back.

Blackpool caved in with the three quick goals in the second half, but to be fair they could have gone in three down at half time anyway. For once the missed opportunities did not come back to haunt us.

Confidence must be high for Tuesday. Gutted i'm missing the next four games, but hope to be top of the league when I get back from holiday. :crest:
