Southampton 1 West Ham Utd 0 (18/10/11)

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
I say stick to what we just did and if we have to juggle players, so be it. Not positions though. If Carew is not fit enough, bring in Carlton. Lansbury and Noble should be raring to go, so although it's harsh I would bring out Collison and Diop got a battering (would be surprised if he stayed fit enough).
Off to play CM01/02

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
If it was down to me I would stick with the 4-4-2 with Baldock but I'm pretty sure BFS will switch back to a 4-5-1. Either way Diop must play he's been fantastic in the last two games.
This how I think Sam will line up:
---------------------Almunia--------------------
Faubert - Tomkins - Reid - McCartney
-----------------------Diop----------------------
Collison -- Nolan -- Lansbury -- Taylor
--------------------- Carew---------------------
I'm really looking forward to this game... it's set up perfectly. First v second, they have won every game at home, we haven't lost away and in front of a full house. If there is a time to send a message to the rest of the league, this is it.
I'm planning on getting to Southampton at around 5pm, where is everyone heading pre-match?

We can lose this and keep our 2 point average, so on one hand I don't care but............

They've won all their home games, we're unbeaten away... something has to give. Let's hope we make a game of it, they're bound to do a bit of a Brighton and falter at one point this season, let's start that off! Don't care who plays, don't care what formation we play, 3 points, and top of the league, that is all.

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
Surely to establish a 2 point per game average we would need to win this game? 21 from 11 played is one point off so far, an away win Tuesday would be 24 from 12, bang on 2pt per game average, or am I missing somethingIrish Iron wrote:We can lose this and keep our 2 point average, so on one hand I don't care but............
Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
I'm in 2 minds about this. We're a point off the lead despite the well documented problems at home, (hopefully Saturday has put that issue to bed) therefore I think there's one goal this season and that's the title. It's been 30 years since we won it. When we play to our potential, few teams can live with us. With that in mind, there's an argument to go all out against Southampton, Derby, etc. However, I think Sam will go 4-5-1 tomorrow and I think that's right. See where we are after 60 minutes and then open the game up if possible.

With their home form I be quite happy with a draw on Tuesday night

We're away from home at the Table toppers, who have a 100% home win record, scoring an average 3 goals per home game , albeit against opposition of questionnable quality .
For our part, on the road, only 'Boro have a meaner defence , and we've shipped just 3 goals in 5 games and are undefeated on the road , picking up 3 wins and 2 draws in the process .
Being the away side we have no obligation to entertain the St Mary's faithful , so a packed midfield is the order of the day , with the , so far, outstanding Diop sure to start alongside skipper Nolan .Taylor will get the nod for his set piece delivery, and I reckon Faubert will get a slot further forward for this one .
I reckon Sam could well go with this
------------------------------------Almunia-----------------------------------
O'Brien-----------------Faye----------Tomkins-----------Macartney
------------------------------------Diop----------------------------------------
-----------------------Nolan----------------Noble---------------------------
Faubert---------------------------------------------------------------Taylor
------------------------------------Cole------------------------------------------
Bench - Boffin, Reid, Collison, Baldock, Carew
I think we'll win, go top, and won't look back for the rest of the season .

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
Really looking forward to this one as it's a local game for me, working with a bunch of saints fans I can only hope we smash them however as everyone else has said, they are unbeaten at home, we are unbeaten away and I really can't see this being a draw, somethings got to give.
Have a feeling we may lose this but if we go at them from the start we should be able to dominate.

I can see this being a proper **** game finishing 0-0 or 1-1
We'll go back to 451 and get the result we were coming for

Is O'Brien fit? I was suprised he didnt play against Blackpool with Faubert going further forward. Although Collison played well hes not really a winger and Faubert has been putting some decent form together lately. He will also have the pace to get up and down and support Carew/Cole as much as possible.

I reckon if Demel is fit he will play, with Faubert on the right
Not sure I can see us winning this one, I reckon 2-1 Saints or 1-1

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
We are going to beat them convincingly, go top, proper kick in to some form, and that is where we are going to stay until the end of the season.
I have had my last 3 game predictions spot on btw.
