Back on topic.
Jack was deputising for Noble today and didnt do enough to keep him out of the Saints game. Only change.

Bringing Noble into that team would seriously mess it up.irving boleyn wrote:Back on topic.

Noble on the wing cutting in like Jack?
I'd take out Baldock and put in Noble beside Diop.
Baldock was good today but 451 away from home please.

Maybe I'm being hopelessly naive but if the team worked today with 442, why not take it to Southampton?Matt of iron wrote:but 451 away from home please.

No. Those reporting on the Blackpool game without mentioning that there were periods of the game that they had us on the ropes, and in particular that our cnetral midfield struggled at times, are misleading you.Monkey Magic wrote:Win and we'll go top of the league
Unchanged team?
Play like that away, against a top team and get a thrashing.
We need to be much, much stronger in central midfield, which probably means 3 in m/f

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
Big game as they go in this division...looking forward to this one a lot. Sam has had the opportunity to prepare well for the next 2 games and we warmed up nicely today for this one.
Teams like these need to be fearing us, so I'd prefer a positive approach, but I do think he'll go with one up front for this. Defensively we're going to be really tested and in midfield we will need a passing outlet, with one up front we've struggled with this, so it will be crucial to see our midfield upping their tempo and work rate. Above all they must keep their discipline
Any kind of win would be a great result but can see this being a 1-1 draw.

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
Big Sam is bigging up little Sam on the o/s after his brace today, ahead of Tuesday's game : keeping us guessing on who will be playing Tuesday .
O'Brien availble, Noble available, Cole available, Piquionne available, and most important of all, a lift available :raver:
Almunia, Taylor, Macca, Tomkins, Nolan, Faubert, Diop are solid certain to start . I reckon Faye will get the nod over Reid , that leaves 3 places up for grabs .
Collison, Cole, Noble, Piquionne, Carew, Baldock , Lansbury.........with Baldock grabbing two today he may have played himself in , and would need a big lump near him .
Big Sam has a decision or two to make .Nice position to be in .

I like that formation I think we look solid with Diop in the middle.

Find it hard to argue against what we have been doing away from home so expect to see 451 in this one.
As impressive as we were yesterday, you tend to see a different style of opposition away and we need to adapt accordingly.
Lansbury will no doubt come in for Baldock and maybe Cole for Carew. Otherwise we will see it unchanged.
It is a nice position for Sam to be in... to be able to say to a striker who has just bagged a brace and the mom bubbles...
"have a breather for this one son, I will only use you for half hour if I have to".
Gutted I didn't apply for tickets, been away and lost track of dates! Anyone know of a spare give me a shout!

Re: Southampton v West Ham Utd: match thread
Selection headaches in a good way for Sam. I think it's early enough in the season for him to gamble with 4-4-2 but fully expect him to revert to 4-5-1 given our strong away from home record.
I don't get potentially starting Lansbury though. Nolan gets stick for being anonymous, noble for slowing play down, collison for playing safe and not making his forward runs of old ..... But Lansbury seemed to give the ball away consistently in the last three games and lost his head in one of them. Behind Nolan, Taylor, Diop, faubert (if demel or o'brien are fit can see faubert moving to right mid), noble and collison for me.

Not bad for a team sitting 2nd is it?hammer1975 wrote: Lansbury seemed to give the ball away consistently in the last three games and lost his head in one of them.
Guess there are just too many moaners and harsh critics on here then.
It can only be a good thing that we have seven midfielders (and three or four strikers, but that is a different debate) who would no doubt get a starting place in any other team in this league.
I've only missed the Donny game so far this season and although I am usually quite drunk, I am yet to see a midfield player against us who I really wish we had in our squad.
Gradel is the closest but I am sure people would moan about him being greedy and diving all the time if he played for us anyway.
End of the day, people on here (and at UP) just love a moan. That is not exactly a revelation.

.......................Almunia
O'Brien.......Reid......Tommo......Linda
Faubert......Papa.......Noble......Collison
........................Nolan
.......................Carew
Subs: Lansbury, Baldrick, Cole, Faye, Boffin
Defensive as hell, but I'd take a point from this one.

I am normally very drunk, but thought our old Bullard was the best player I've seen against us. Him and Gradel.sutts07 wrote: although I am usually quite drunk, I am yet to see a midfield player against us who I really wish we had in our squad.... Gradel is the closest
Fearing Ricky Lambert.

Same here, which is why I'd like to see Faye given a start. He'll kick the **** out of him.Doc H Ball wrote: Fearing Ricky Lambert.
