Re: Sheffield Wednesday v West Ham Utd: match thread

I would be anxious to give some players more playing time than others in games like this.

Yes,we run the risk of another giant-killing, however, our priorities lie elsewhere. We are as good as top in the Championship. We need to sustain that. The FA Cup is a welcome distraction, as it gives us another week to recuperate. However, as the rounds go by, our presence in the competition will be less desirable, as many of our competitors in the Championship will be focused on one competition.

Players likes O'Neill, Lansbury and Baldock need playing time. This game will provide for that. I dont see any need to remove Robert Green from goal. The fact that Sam signed Almunia, as opposed to selecting Boffin last October, demonstrates that Sam is of the opinion that none of our sub keepers have anything more than a pre 2004 Stephen Bywater role (i.e. fill in during a match due to a Green injury). In defence, if Faye is available, then he should be played. Jack Collison could also do with some make up time.

Thus, if I was BFS, I would pick

----------------------Green----------------------------

O'Brien--------Reid-------Faye--------------McCartney

SO'Neill---------Lansbury------Noble--------Collison

-----------------=-Baldock---------Carew-------------

Boffin,Tomkins,Potts,Nolan,Montano,Cole,Piquionne

Really looking forward to this trip, the doris is driving us up early Saturday with a stop at Chatsworth House along the way. Let's just hope we get a win and a nice quick journey home.

When's the draw for the fourth round? Before or after our game?

You sure Chatsworth House is open this time of year?

Why play Carew? He won't be here next season regardless so if we are going to play a weakened team lets at least put out players who could be the future of the club like Hall or Nouble.

I dont see this as a "building" period. I see this as a period which requires immediate success, and successful quick fixes when required. The likes of Carew probably wont be here next season, but can you imagine BFS charging Nouble will holding the line next term? Like Ruud Boffin, his role in the squad is limited, and this role will probably expire if promotion is achieved. What you are saying could have been attributed to Trent McLenehan, Chris Cohen, and Greg Person in 2005. IIRC, only one Premiership appearence was made between those players after promotion. Even the likes of Elliott Ward had trouble breaking into the team once Collins and Gabbidon were signed. Nouble will probably be sold in the Summer.

When you think about it, only Green, Tomkins, Nolan, Noble, O'Neil, Cole, Collison, Taylor, and possibly Reid, O'Brien, and Diop will be guaranteed to be retained if promotion is achieved.

There's an original condition Elizabethan house near the centre of Sheffield. You could get blind drunk and smash it up  Seriously there are some very nice boozers in Sheffield, away from the centre and not necessarily footy associated. London Rd has just about every kind of restaurant you could want, but beware that it is Bluntsville and full of rogues of an evening. Avoid the pubs in London Rd but do check out the eateries.

Result doesn't matter in this one, the FA cup is just a distraction.

---------------- Boffin---------------

Faubert-----Faye ----Fry----Potts

Sears----Collison-----Montenegro

Nouble----Carew-----Piquionne

Subs: Stech,Hall,Moncur,O.Lee,Abdulla,Wearen,Lletget

inexpieranced yes but I wouldnt risk playing Nolan etc incase of injuries and yellows adding up

:thdn:

It is just 6 games... and that is if you get all the way to Wembley!

Win at the weekend, get a nice easy (if there is such a thing for WHU) draw in the 4th round, and we could be playing for a place in the Quarter Final come Feb! I can understand using a few of the squad players but within reason surely??

Winning clubs receive £67,500 from The FA's prize fund

The FA Live TV fee is £123,500 per club
The FA fee for designated highlights is £5,750 per club.

Five FA Cup Third Round ties have been selected for live television coverage, starting on Saturday 7 January when the West Midlands derby between Birmingham and Wolverhampton Wanderers is on ESPN.

There will be a second game shown on the same channel later that day with Aston Villa's trip to Bristol Rovers kicking-off at 5.30pm.

Sunday sees the coverage switch to ITV1, with the Manchester derby at Eastlands kicking-off at 12.30pm. That is followed at 3.30pm by the tie at London Road between Peterborough United and Sunderland.

The Fourth Round draw will follow this game, live on ITV1.

The final tie to be shown live takes place on Monday 9 January, as the game between Arsenal and Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium is screened on ESPN.

Off the mark on KUMB.

In short: Australian (Melbourne) recently moved to Mile End. Best mate 4th-generation Hammers (posts here, not sure what handle) and he's been slowly indoctrinating me over many years . Most of our Hawthorn footy standing room songs flogged from you lot in one form or another. So it made sense to get properly involved upon arrival. Went along to the last few pre-Christmas matches at Upton Park up the top of the STB and (the Burnley capitulation notwithstanding) loved it & picked up a season ticket in the East Stand for the duration of the '11-12 season. This Sunday my first away-day. Cannot wait to get amongst it.

Montenegro (recall from loan)? What's that all about, don't we have him on loan?
