Re: Peterborough United V West Ham United Match Thread
My bro went to the P'boro vs Leeds game and went to Charters before the game. He said it was busy but wasn't packed and easy to get a beer. On the basis Leeds took 4000+ hopefully charters should be ok. Brewery Tap is also decent as its a pretty big pub.
Re: Peterborough United V West Ham United Match Thread
'He's playing his first full season since coming back from a 14+ month lay off. (I put the '+' because he should never have been brought back and made to play last May). He's bound to be a bit slower than the rest. He's been in almost every squad this season and more often than not, the starting 11, most of the time playing out of position on the wing. Wingers have to run much, much more than central midfielders do and i think Collison has played there admirably. Hopefully he gets his chance in CAM with Nolan out and we'll see a different quality of player who can add to his 3 goals and 4 assists.'
All true, but watching the game on Sky plus when I got back, I could see he just did not have the stamina or pace to track back, and on one occasion, gave up the ghost when a Millwall striker was only a few yards away from him baring down on our goal. I do not want to bash the player, but while we are striving to get ahead of our closest rivals, we need players who can cover ground and support up and down the pitch. Collinson is not that player at the moment. Previously we did not have the personnel to fill the position, but now we do and therefore should ease him in throughout the remainder of the season and then we may see him back to his best next year.

Re: Peterborough United V West Ham United Match Thread
Can people not see that we play much much better with a DM in our team? Diop or Tomkins sitting in front of our back 4 is an absolute must especially against an attack minded team like the posh...
Green
O'Brien Faye Tomkins Macca
Faubert Noble Diop Taylor
Cole Maynard
Subs: Stech, Baldock, Vaz Te, Reid, O'Neill
If Diop still injured then play Tomka as DM again.
We need a DM people. Noble is not a DM, Collison is not a DM. And sorry but Collison has been nowhere near good enough this season, I know he's been played out of position but he also can't tackle...
3-1 to the irons (Tomkins, Maynard, Baldock from the subs bench).

I totally agree. The most important position in our team, imoHeart0fIron wrote:Can people not see that we play much much better with a DM in our team? Diop or Tomkins sitting in front of our back 4 is an absolute must especially against an attack minded team like the posh..
Not because I think Papa, or whoever plays there, is a brilliant player.
More that it allows the rest of the team to go forwards knowing their back is being covered, so the likes of Noble, Taylor, Faubert can play in the opposition's half where they can cause real problems for the opposition.
There's no confusion about who should be sitting, and who should be further forwards. Those who have the ability in the oppositions half have the platform to play their football.

Wouldn't play Saturday's match winner then ?

Re: Peterborough United V West Ham United Match Thread
I'd like to see this team. I think BFS will go for 4-5-1 though in which case I would go with Collison in for Baldock playing AM. When Cole tires give Maynard his debut either way.

4-1-4-1 for a 2-1 win:
Green - O'Brien, Faye, Reid, McCartney - Tomkins - Faubert, Collison, Noble, Taylor - Cole.
If Diop is fit, slot him in as DM, drop Faye to the bench, and shift Tomkins back to centre half.

Re: Peterborough United V West Ham United Match Thread
In their past 10 games Peterborough have only managed to score 1 goal maximum per match.
Portsmouth went to Peterborough on 28th January and got a 3-0 win, playing 4-4-2
Before that Brighton visited them and played 4-4-2, they won 2-1
Though on 2nd of January Birmingham could only manage a 1-1 draw playing the same formation, so perhaps they raise their game for so called bigger teams? But this was during the busy xmas / new year period.
Looking at their results against so called big teams at home since October reads as:
Peterborough 4 - 3 Cardiff
Peterborough 1 - 1 Middlesbrough
Peterborough 1 - 1 Birmingham
So again it looks like they raise their game for the visit of teams at the top of the league, against Birmingham they scored early (1 min in), against Middlesbrough scored late (9mins left), against Cardiff they scored 2 late goals 87 + 90 (trailing 3-2 at the time).
All in all Sam needs to make sure the players are switched on from kick and off and more importantly to not switch off near the end.
Vaz Te scored against them this season for Barnsley.
I expect Peterborough following their poor form to go into this game looking for a draw, hoping to nick a 1-0 if possible aka park the bus.
We should try and include Maynard and Vaz Te at some point during the game as they will be fresh and raring to go. Would hope Sam goes 2 up front for this as we need to take the game to Peterborough.
The tricky decisions will be do we play Maynard up front with Cole or Cole up front with Vaz Te dropping behind, then thinking who partners Noble in the centre, Collison has looked suspect (maybe he needs some rest?), will Diop be fit? Lansbury perhaps for his attacking threat, plus the games rest looks like a decent bet.
Be interesting to know how far off Demel is with his fitness, but it be harsh to drop O'Brien and wrong to make too many changes to a team that has just won after battling away with 10 men.
Up to Sam who partners Tomkins at the back, im sure he will analyse who best to mark Boyd out of Reid / Faye, maybe prefering Reid as the younger and more likely to be fresh option.
Hopefully then:
Green
McCartney
Tomkins
Reid
O'Brien
Taylor
Noble
Lansbury
Faubert
Cole
Maynard
Subs:
Collison
Demel
Vaz Te
Baldock
Faye
