If Diop's fit he'll play won't he ?
Tomkins back at CB, for Faye or Reid ?

I agree bob - probably for Reid for this oneBobby Orangeboom wrote:If Diop's fit he'll play won't he ?

Got a feeling he won't be fit though - not sure why but most likely down to years of west ham players allegedly returning to fitness seeming to always miss the first game they're supposed to be back for with little or no explain - I know, cynical
I do like the idea of Tomkins, noble and collison playing together in the middle to see how it works though but maybe not for this one if Diop is fit

Win this and be 4 points clear with a game in hand.
I predicted earlier this season that once we went top we would stay top till the end of the season, lets hope they don't prove me wrong on Tuesday.

No excuses for not winning this, they've played two games since we last played

Re: Southampton Home: Match Thread
I don't envy Sam one little bit on the build up to this game. If we play 1 up front and try and keep it tight, I think that Southampton have the quality to cause us a few problems regardless. On the flip side to that, if he plays 4-4-2 and proper goes for it then although I think we would score plenty, I think we could concede a few too. For what its worth, my team would be:
----------------------Green--------------------------
O'Brien------Reid-------Tomkins-------Linda
----------------O'Neil-------Noble--------------------
Faubert-------------------------------------Taylor
----------------Baldock---------Cole------------

It doesn't always work that way though, sometimes it happens that the team that played last get into it straight away whereas the other team is a bit cold and never really get started.TheAlmightyAmmer wrote:No excuses for not winning this, they've played two games since we last played

Re: Southampton Home: Match Thread
not usually pessimistic but we wont win this. It's not west ham's way is it to get a result and pull away. why not lose and make it much more tense. to be honest id be happy if we just dont lose, and that will probably be big sams remit to the team. if we do win i feel we would become uncatchable. Would like to see vaz te, maynard and baldock start to be honest.

Re: Southampton Home: Match Thread
They need the win more than us which is an interesting, and possibly favourable, dynamic.

That's my preferred BFS formation and line-up, but with Nolan behind cole and Noble dropping deeper, in place of Diop. I think I'd rather see Collison behind Cole, and again Noble for one of the defensive midfielders, in this one.bubbles1966 wrote:They need the win more than us which is an interesting, and possibly favourable, dynamic.

Re: Southampton Home: Match Thread
2 defensive midfielders at home?
That would really annoy me. They aint Barcelona, and will just be as cautious as we are with regards to potential dangers. I'd like to see us play with 2 upfront, be a bit adventurous and go at them, something we never did at St mary's and for me, was the reason we lost.

An average thinker would play Tomkins through the middle and McCartney if fit, at left back. But you've reversed them. inspired.
But lets take it further. Cole could hold, he loves dropping deep, and we could push the wardrobe up front...

Didn't Fulham play wardrobe up front occasionally?
I'd like to see Morrison played behind Cole (as he is a natural attacking midfielder), but this isn't the match to be trying out our young new rebel.
