Please God don't let Carew near our team ever again!
Re: Peterborough United v West Ham United: Match Thread
Carew or Cole it must be close after Burnley game, at Carew showed a footballing brain with some clever knock downs to Maynard and Baldockclawhammer wrote:Please God don't let Carew near our team ever again!
Re: Peterborough United v West Ham United: Match Thread
Sam has done a terrible thing to the strikers who've played for us this season.
Rather than sorting out the creativity in midfield and crossing from the wings which is where the root of our problems lies, he's chopped and changed strikers to an extent that none of them know if they are starting, going out on loan or being taken round the back and shot
Giving strikers such intermitent playing time simply destroys their confidence and is the root cause of the problems we're having in recent weeks
Look at the strikers used and the starts they've had in the 38 matches played so far this season: Piq 8, Sears 2, Cole 23, Carew 7, Baldock 9, Nouble 1, Vaz Te 5, Maynard 6
Too many strikers used = not enough consistency of selection, not enough understanding built up, not enough goals scored. The strikers are all missing chances now because they are low on confidence, unsure of whether they'll play, who they'll play with and in which tactical system
Sam should have worked out months ago that his problem was not in finishing - which he constantly criticises - but in creativity - which he never mentions

6-0 win, Taylor to spank one from 45 yards, Nolan to get a trademark dash-into-the-box-and-poach-one, Noble from the spot, Baldock to get a poachers effort, Collison to dribble around 3 players and stroke one off erm in from the corner of the area and Cole to have the keeper try and hoof it clear only for it to spank him on teh face and roll in.
Mmm these new pills are a winner.

I am not disagreeing with your basic point, but I do think our strikers have been particularly crap this year. I don't know what the stats are but my impression is that strikers like Lambert are making a lot of their own luck/chances and are much better at taking the opportunities presented.libero wrote: Sam should have worked out months ago that his problem was not in finishing - which he constantly criticises - but in creativity - which he never mentions
Baldock and Maynard appear to have lost the killer instinct, and Carlton never had it. Unfortunately he isn't even getting the odd goal anymore. I seriously think Sam has a point when he looks at the chance spurned. Despite all the crap he gets, Nolan is one of the less wasteful.

Don't get me started on the DI CANIO chanting.....is he still a Messiah after losing in the cup final??? Seen as hes got the Man CIty of League 2 he should win the poxy league!!!!!!! And singing his name as a dig at BFS doesn't help anything, I love the bloke and no doubt he will eventually be a great manager for us but not now! Hes the last thing we need!
-- if you add that awfull sam baldock song, and of course the " i wanna go home..." dirge that every other muggy club sings,
sort it out west ham fans...show some ****ing class!

Yes, it's true that our strikers have been wasteful recently, but I think that has a lot to do with Sam's tactics and Sam destroying the strikers' confidence by having so little confidence in them.
As well as the start stats I mentioned in my post (Piq 8, Sears 2, Cole 23, Carew 7, Baldock 9, Nouble 1, Vaz Te 5, Maynard 6) it's also interesting to note the strikers' stats in their first games started this season, something which also has its own tale to tell:
Cole 4 goals after 4 starts
Piq 2 goals after 4 starts
Carew 2 goals after 1 start
Baldock 5 goals after 5 starts
Nouble 1 goal after 1 start
Vaz Te 1 goal after 2 starts
Maynard 1 goal after 1 start
Almost all of them started well, but then Sam starts chopping and changing, taking them off, dropping them, criticising them, playing them out of position, putting them on the bench, making them lose confidence and, surprise, surprise, the goals start to dry up
If Allardyce had shown the same confidence in any 2 or 3 of these strikers as he has done in certain midfield players, I think they'd be in a better frame of mind for the run in

Can't believe Sam is already talking about Reading being our big chance on Saturday on his email. We shouldn't even be thinking about Saturday yet. Have a feeling we're going to be undercooked for this one and get caught out.

Faubert is travelling with the squad. Whether he will make the 16 or not he hasn't divulged such info yet!
