Re: West Ham Utd v Hull City: match thread
The pressure is all on the Saints. Coventry are an awful team and I would fully expect Southampton to steam roller them but the pressure of being top all season and being on the cusp of losing out to a resurgent West Ham team that looks like it could score for fun at the moment is certainly getting to their fans and that could well filter through to the players.
West Ham have started strongly in almost every game we've played over the last few months. Even the Southampton and Reading games we were all over them both early on. If we can start brightly and get an early goal, that will filter through to St Mary's and the natives might start getting restless. The players get nervy, easy passes are over hit, mis controls in space lead to lunging tackles. Free kicks in dangerous positions are conceded, chances for a break appear. Anything can happen on the day. There could even be a mistimed tackle and red card for a Saints player.
Anything can happen at Southampton though, even though chances are Coventry will lose. All we can do is get at Hull early on and keep ramping up the pressure and hope for the best. The most important thing though is our fans get behind the team. We have to recognise chances are it wont go for us. Hull are a hard team to beat, they wont ship 3 goals easily, and soton are heavy favourites to roll Coventry over. Just keep cheering the team on rather than groaning at missed chances and getting edgy and we might just get lucky.

Re: West Ham Utd v Hull City: match thread
Every time Saints have been put under the cosh and we have thought "Ooo they could buckle under the pressure now", they have come back all guns blazing and smashed their next game, hence me being 99.999999% certain we are in the play offs.
This game for me is all about maintaining momentum. We are on a good run and are probably playing the best football of our season. Lets take that into the play offs and give it a real good go!

I wonder if the ref will let me play with my earphones in and iphone stitched to the inside of my shorts?
Might have to drive the car right up to the pitch and leave the radio on full volume.

Reckon this is our only chance. Get an early goal, and hopefullly the news that we're leading will filter over to St Mary's and get the nerves jangling. That's if Saints haven't already scored early. Which they have a habit of doing..... Oh, forget it.sendô wrote:

A fairly mad place to be at this stage - after the last few seasons!
We know that we have a chance for auto promo but I feel no squeaky bums - just frivolity and reality!
Well done us :raver:

Re: West Ham Utd v Hull City: match thread
To be honest this is great fun and going into the last game of the season with a sniff of automatic promotion, something to actually play for, is a good place to be. That, and the fallback being a short knockout competition where we're already in the semi-finals, with a chance of Wembley. The crowd should be rocking.
But IF we could keep this unit of players mostly together, then if we don't go up this year I think we'll storm it next year.
Last night was an excellent performance just let down by not being quite clinical enough - I expect us to have a proper go at Hull and try and steamroller into an early lead a-la Brighton :raver:
