Not sure if this is tongue in cheek (see post above, fnar fnar), though I suspect it is, but to be fair last season's pre season was pants, and look what happened (although it did take quarter or more of the season to get going I admit)Matt of iron wrote:Terrible.
If we can't win all our pre season games then what hope do we have for the real thing?

Re: Austria Vienna Vs West Ham United
Vienna were a month ahead of us as far as match fitness is concerned so i'd personally not look at todays result as being a particularly bad one.
Re: Austria Vienna Vs West Ham United
That's been very true of West Ham over the years.mumbles87 wrote:I find if you have a good pre season you do rubbish in the league
and if you have a bad one you do well...
so sod pre season
Pre season results matter not! A tough run out against good opposition will do the squad a world of good.

I remember we won all of our pre-season games under a certain fellow named Avram Grant. Nuff said

Some pictures from yesterday's game here, just about to upload a video of our goal on the home page. Bear in mind however it's taken from the opposite end of the stadium!
Edit: here's Baldock's goal (plus Wien's third), you can't see a great deal though: http://www.kumb.com/story.php?id=126341" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My opinion. For what it's worth. Fell asleep after 35 mins. Team did likewise, only a few minutes earlier. Up to then we pinged the ball about quite nicely. Heat was, and incidentally still is, awesome, and we were clearly unfit. So this game mattered little for anything other than a workout. Big thanks to Baz and Doris at the Red Lion over here. Great hosts

Anyone know if they produced a programme for the game? I've heard there was some commemorative stuff on sale, although can't imagine many wore the Austria Wien - West Ham scarf in 40 degree temperature

Hehe! Got lucky on the scarf fella. We gave a lift to the seller to the stadium, so he gave us a couple for freeRicardo wrote:Anyone know if they produced a programme for the game? 61 tram direct from Opera - took 25 minutes and cost €2!!10 Iron wrote:And you think trying to get to UP is a b*stard, they decided of all days today, to shut the U1 line, must have taken about 3 trams, 2 buses and the ****ing metro thing.
It was a pretty poor game, but no surprises. Speaking to a few Wien supporters, they've played a handful of friendlies already (against lower league teams) and they looked much fitter and more prepared.
It was quite interesting that they played a weird version of three lions after the game and the Wien players celebrated in front of their hardcore support like they'd won a cup!
Shouldnt really judge after that game; but its hard not to! high/low lights
- Jussi made a fantastic save in the 2nd half
- Diame gave it away a lot but always seemed to win it back. He's a big bugger.
- Baldock and Reid looked about the sharpest for us
- Ravel....kept coming deep to get the ball then giving it away or playing a pass that could have been made without him needing to come deep. Maybe making him play the whole game with "the kids" was a way of keping his feet on the ground?
- Nolan was typical Nolan - strolled around and acted the WUM.
