Everton 0 – 0 West Bromwich Albion
Cardiff City 0 – 0 Everton
Everton 1 – 0 Chelsea
League Cup:
Everton 2 – 1 Stevenage (aet)
Latest Results:
Southampton 0 - 0 West Ham
Jussi Jaaskelainen produced several brilliant saves as West Ham came away from Premier League rivals Southampton with a fortunate point.
The 38-year-old denied Dani Osvaldo, Morgan Schneiderlin and Rickie Lambert with three spectacular stops in a match dominated by the Saints.
Jaaskelainen also tipped over Victor Wanyama's strike, while Lambert saw his header bounce back off the post.
James Collins wasted a glorious chance for West Ham in the closing stages.
That effort was the Hammers' clearest opportunity of the match and summed up their profligacy in front of goal - Sam Allardyce's men have now only managed six shots on target in the league all season and have not scored since the opening day.
Southampton supporters would have been left frustrated by their players' inability to breach the last line of defence, although they would have been pleased with the overall performance.
Everton 1 - 0 Chelsea
Roberto Martinez recorded his first Premier League win since his appointment as Everton manager with victory over Chelsea at Goodison Park.
Steven Naismith's header in first-half injury time inflicted Jose Mourinho's first domestic defeat since returning to Chelsea - but this was a win of huge significance for Martinez
He has seen Everton draw their first three league games since succeeding David Moyes but he will have been elated at how his players produced a combination of the passing football he demands, and the resilience that was part of their make-up before his arrival, to claim the three points.
Last Time Out:
West Ham 1 - 2 Everton
Everton came from behind to beat West Ham United and move back into fourth place as both sides ended with 10 men at Upton Park.
Carlton Cole gave West Ham an early lead but was then shown a hotly-contested red card for a high challenge on Leighton Baines after the interval.
Victor Anichebe had already headed Everton level after 64 minutes and they cashed in on West Ham's numerical disadvantage when Steven Pienaar scrambled in what proved to be the winner shortly after Cole was sent off.

1-1 for me.
We'll keep it tight and try and get 30 minutes from Petric, who'll probably score our equaliser with 10 minutes to go.
Also think Downing will return (based on absolutely nothing).

A win is absolutely crucial here, because I think we'll struggle to win any of our next 4 following it

Neither team is scoring many goals (actually who is this year?), so likely to be tight. Hopefully we can get Downing back (maybe?), perhaps get Petric introduced and being at home, go for it a bit more.
I'd start Vaz Te for this one - do we start Morrison again? I'd like to think we could.
Going for a tight 1-0 win, with Nolan to grab it.

If we start Morrison again, it needs to be where Diame was shifted to yesterday.
Diame was wasted in that position and if we're to sacrifice anyone's talents it has to be Morrison's at this stage.

I actually thought Diame did quite well on the right hand side against a physically weaker full back in Shaw. Arguably should have scored early on.

We brought Morrison on in that position against Stoke though and all he wanted to do was come infield which completely unbalanced the side.Billydinho wrote:If we start Morrison again, it needs to be where Diame was shifted to yesterday.

True but Diame isn't a wide midfielder. He's far too vital to the engine of our team to be played out of position.
Put Jarvis on the right with O'Brien and Morrison on the left where he can cut in and have Rat overlap to maintain the width.

Yep, not a bad idea that. And what with Demel not being able to complete a full 90 - for some strange reason - and O'Brien's continued form, I'd go with Rat from the start.Billydinho wrote:Put Jarvis on the right with O'Brien and Morrison on the left where he can cut in and have Rat overlap to maintain the width.

Would take a draw but reckon we'll be out passed and out played. 2-0 to Everton.

Re: West Ham United v Everton FC: Match Thread
I've just realised I've never seen us beat Everton. I did see us lose 4-0 at home (The Ilic game) and I saw us lose 5-0 away in 2001.
I'm going Saturday by the way.

I saw us nearly beat them, when Hartson handed Kitson the ball to complete a hat-trick to go 3-0 up. Pen missed, 2-2 draw - only at West Ham...

What about 2-0 up Kitson pen for 3-0...Misses.....2-2.

At least we won't have to contend with Fellaini - he's always a threat, plus referees never seem to spot his persistent shoving, elbowing and general dirty play.
Let's hope that Everton, under Martinez, defend with a Wigan-like ineptitude, and that RVT or Petric
(or anyone but Maiga) starts uptop.
