COC4: Burnley 0-2 West Ham Utd (29/10/13)

Post by Bobby Orangeboom »

Amend at will but I watched them on Saturday, and was pretty impressed.

They never gave QPR any time on the ball whatsoever and forced them into mistake after mistake, really aggressive pressing.

They mixed it up well, went long at times and showed they could play short and tidy stuff too when circumstances allowed but what impressed me the most was the momentum they played with which we will have to kill.

They really got at QPR, the crowd, the players, the lot.

The good news is that I don't think Dyche will put out anywhere near a full side.

A lot of the 'bigger teams' have tricky games in this round.

The league being wide open will cause the teams such as Arsenal, Man utd/City to start focus on either catching up or trying to stretch out a lead, champions league rules remember.

Get through this and I'd fancy us to beat anyone at Upton Park, if we play the right team.

Got a feeling about this cup this year....

(Cue us going out on pens)

Am travelling up there for this.
Turf Moor has eluded me (luckily, you will say) until now!!

Burnley are impressive this year and it is going to be a tough night. But I think Big Sam really has to play a strong team and go for this Cup. Despite our league position, I honestly do not think we are going down and would expect us to finish 13/14th - pretty dull, but safe. Which is why we have to give this a good go!!

Burnley, on the other hand have different priorities and may decide to rest a few...... wishful thinking maybe, but who knows!!

I also watched Burnley Saturday. Very entertaining and two players up front who obviously work well with each other. I think they will put out a decent side for their fans so we need to match them. This is not like playing a struggling league 2 side.

I think Nobes, Diame and Downing deserve a rest.

Is he back from his loan deal at Bournmouth yet? Ideal game for him to start if he is.

Sam in his post match interview yesterday eluded to playing squad players so expect him to field a weakened team. With no quality strikers I am not confident of winning games including this one. :thdn:

Gret win by Burnley at the weekend, I'm very pleased for their Manager who was disgracefully treated by Watford .

But this is as far as I want them to progress in this competition , so I would like a strong side for this .

-----------------------------------------Jussi---------------------------

Demel---------------Tomkins-------------------Reid-------------Rat

---------------------------JoB--------------------MoMo------------------

Downing---------------------------Cole (J)----------------------Jarvis

----------------------------------------Cole (c)-----------------------------

Bench - Adrian, Noble, Nolan, Taylor, Collins, Maiga,Morrison

Four England internationals to unlock Burnley should be enough .Let's see if any of them want to go to Brazil .

Can't see a strong first team being put out, especially after just playing 2 days earlier and a winnable game against Villa at the weekend. If Burnley decide to go for it then we could be in trouble, with home advantage and chance of an upset and doing what Bradford did last year I would make them favourites. On the other hand if Dyche decides that he wants to rest players we certainly should have enough to win.

I've said from when the draw was made that I expect a weak reserve team, sandwiched as it is between two games that we would hope to get a result in. So maybe I should be questioning my sanity in going. However, with promotion surely a priority for Burnley, I suspect they will also rotate their squad a little with an away game at Millwall on saturday. I expect we will make more changes than they will though.

Sure we'll rotate again. McCartney is injured again, Collison is back and sure we'll start a striker:

Adrian; Potts, Tomkins, O'Brien, Chambers; Taylor, Collison, Diame; Jarvis, C. Cole, J. Cole.

Subs: Spiegel, Reid, Noble, Nolan, Petric, Downing, Rat.
