Re: West Ham United v Manchester United: Match Thread
"Really enjoyed watching Kouyate bringing the ball out of defence - haven't seen one of our so CB's comfortable on the ball for yonks - Rio, Stretch, Galey, Bilic and Bonzo take a bow, along with Kouyate . . ."
I really loved those games we had at the end of one season with Dicks, Rio and Bilic as three at the back. They took turns running through the midfield, such a pleasure to watch. I think we would lose some goals against the top teams, Kouyate did get turned a few times, but it would be worth it.

Desperate isn't it.giantsteps wrote:Hahaha. I can't believe van Gaal came out with those stats in his press conference.
 Brilliant!
Well done BFS.
Say what you like, Louis, but you've spent the best part of £500m and if James Collins had been fit you're lads could still be playing now and they still wouldn't have scored.

Totally agree. The whole thing is spoiling the match threads. As soon as the team is announced someone posts a pro or anti Nolan comment and it continues
And if it stops someone starts it again. A few (from both side of the fence) seem to delight in resurrecting the subject
As someone who doesn't go I enjoy reading the match threads at the end of the day but have stopped looking at them so much because of this ongoing disagreement. And, yes I do realise that if he plays (or indeed if he doesn't) it is more than reasonable for him to be discussed in a match thread. But not the overkill that is currently happening

Re: West Ham United v Manchester United: Match Thread
the only important figures in this argument are the 32 out of 200 (16%) and the 41 out of 343 (12%) - pretty similar
i would also be interested to know how a 'long ball - forward' is classified in comparison to a 'long ball - not forward' - what angle of direction means it becomes a forward ball vs a sideways ball?

I love Big Sam, lives to get on Wenger's tits, last season with Jose and now he's managed to troll LVG.
It's almost Fergie esque what he's done to Van Gaal.

I genuinely believe LVG is starting to feel the heat, I'm definitely not ITK at Manchester United as I live in Hornchurch and not Weybridge but producing those stats just stirred the pot again. Say whatever you like about Sam but he does a fantastic job of getting under people's skin (sometimes our own fans) I can envisage Sam sitting back with with his hands clasped behind his head and saying "A job well done there"

Is playing the long ball that insulting? It's making it out like its cheating!mattjp wrote:So, it seems Sam well and truly rattled Van Gaal, who rocked up to his press conference today with a four-page dossier of 'stats' to counter the 'Long Ball United' claim
I think this press conference and diagrams will just rise to more debate of long ball for Van Gaals Manchester United now, its just put his team under more scrutiny. Not only do they have to win but they have to win by playing short passes now.

Say what you like about Big Sam, but he never turned up to a presser with a 'dossier'.
Just accept it Louis. You brought on Fellaini and you launched it at his head for 25 minutes. It's not that big a deal.

Ha, ha her expression is classic!
Well done Sam - done a right job on LVG there and he fell for it hook, line and sinker.
Even the people on the Manure forum can't understand his reaction.

Van Gaal's Man Utd long ball diagrams
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31365153" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They don't really argue his case very well and he obviously hasn't quite grasped the concept of sam's irony
