Just no intensity. Easy game for both midfields, no one closed anyone down. Missed Noble for me (sorry) and obviously Kouyate after going off. Both would have been snappier in midfield, whilst Obiang's passing is not as good as Noble's. Felt like he was trying to test everyone's first touch with his passing by banging it into them.

The back pass rule requires that the ball is kicked, i.e. played with the foot (specifically the foot and not shin, knee, thigh), and from what I could see (would need to see it again), it didn't come off the player's foot, and that's why it wasn't given as a back pass.
Noble's influence is twofold.... He'll get the ball to Payet making space for him by drawing a defender...no hospital balls.. He also invariably makes himself available for a pass when Payet has the ball. Despite his other qualities Kayoute doesnt have this in his game. Obiang may do eventually.
Song could have provided this service yesterday, but despite having a good game, following his revival against City, he was always on the opposite side of the pitch yesterday.

I have not been through this but has anyone mentioned the abuse that Twitchy got in the after match interview.
My mate sent me a picture of myself giving him loads of abuse.

How weird, I just came in this thread to ask the same thing.
I was next to him and I was shouting all sorts. He was the first down the tunnel once filming had finished.

Unconvinced that this is true.
Isn't it anything above the knee is not a back pass, below is one?
Since FIFA’s back pass rule explicitly states that the goalie cannot pick up the ball “if has been deliberately kicked to him by a teammate,” some players attempt to circumvent the law by using other means to pass the ball back. This action is known as trickery.
Trickery includes ****ing the ball up so one could pass it to the goalie with the knee, chest, or head. Such action will be penalized whether the goalie touches the ball or not since it is a blatant attempt by a player to circumvent the first condition of the back pass law.
Just back from a another great weekender in Liverpool.
Personally I love the city, the people, it's 2 Clubs and their grounds. It's unfashionable on here to say it, but I don't have much of an axe to grind with this lot, I've enjoyed going up there for 35 years despite still never seeing us win!
Did The Arkles, the Anfield Cafe, the fan park, the Arkles again and the Mountford as well as meeting loads of KUMBers.
Shame about the strangely tepid game, which didn't help generate an atmosphere. If ever Liverpool were easier to beat, then it was yesterday but we lacked any real edge.
I thought the knock to Kouyate affected our hold on midfield and we missed Noble's incisiveness. Payet needs feeding and Song, Obiang and Kouyate all played more defensively. Valencia had another one of those 'is this bloke a good player or not?' games - the jury all died a while back.
I'm pleased we get another night game at the Boleyn against one of the giants of the game, but we could and should have buried them already.
