I reckon we should have gone all out to get Defoe but its not going to happen. I also read somewhere that he's been told he's going nowhere!

I was just thinking who I could replace Holt with in the suggested starting X1 thread and all I could think of was Doyle . He's hardly prolific , but very good at holding the ball up and would be great with Defoe . Is this your news , Chippenham or something that's been tweeted ?

IF Ravel Morrison has finally got the message and is knuckling down to be a proper professional footballer ...
And IF he really is the player that Ferguson, Brooking, Allardyce, etc, think he could be ...
Then we haven't got a winger, but we might just have a Paul Gascoigne-like attacking midfielder who can play the passes, make the runs and score the goals that turn an mediocre team into a very good one ... England might have a surprise package in 2014 ... and G&S will be making back a major chunk of their investment in WHU when they sell him soon after the tournament.
And IF he's anything like poor old Gazza, we'll probably be well rid of him ...

If there's one striker I always thought was destined for big Sam it's Kevin Doyle. There aren't many who typify that hard working lone striker role like he does. I can't see us getting in two first choice strikers though. I can't see Defoe wanting to come back, I doubt spurs want rid and even if they do QPR will throw money at him like they're allergic to it.
On Morrison. One of the young English players I have watched play. Natural talent flows out of the boy. Whilst I wouldn't normally advocate YouTube videos (the yilmaz ones made me laugh. People saying we wouldn't sign him cos he had no lone striker attributes - how many YouTube videos are there of players closing down defenders and holding up the ball) but there's flair and instinct on show in those that you don't see a lot of. However, we all know natural talent only helps you against the lesser lights, in any line of work if you don't put in the effort you'll get found out when the going gets tough. Such an exciting player, let's hope he follows his own advice this summer

plus Defoe wouldnt fit our one striker system. Mad to spend a large proportion of limited funds on a player that will spend most of the time on the bench.

Defoe won't leave Spuds, he's the only striker they've got at the moment!

Great...just the area in which we currently lack numbers....never mind about full-backs and genuine wide players.

Very true Jabsco. We've got plenty of strikers, even though none of them will score 15+ this year, but we need to focus on getting some wide men and some decent full backs, not to mention cover for Reid and Tomkins. In the PL, I sincerely doubt that O'Brien will be up to the task, along with Taylor, O'Neil and Collison in the midfield. Not saying that the latter two couldn't do a job in the centre of midfield but would be poxy wingers..

Interesting fact - Rafael Van Der Vaart is 1 year, 8 months and 17 days older than Obefemi Martens. Jermaine Defoe is older than them both.

Can't find that anywhere. Searching "Van Der Vaart" or "VDV" brings up a few tweets about Totts wanting shot of him, a few about him staying at Totts, and quite a lot about Hamburg/Frank Arneson wanting him, but "Van Der Vaart West Ham", "Van Der Vaart whu" and "Van Der Vaart in talks with" brings up nothing. If it's on Twitter, it's definitely not "all over" Twitter. hightec wrote:panthersnake77
21 followers, follows just about every suspect "ITK" West Ham type on Twitter.

he has 21 followers and he heard the info from a mate of his? Bloody hell.. Twitter ITK's are not a credible source. There's enough rubbish made up in most papers without needing to trawl through twitter.
