If we had of given him a 50,000K a week and not got promoted how stupid would we look as we unloaded Noble, Cole , Collision and Vaz Te to balance the books because we have a keeper on 50K a week in the championship.
Green has not been hard done by the club, his contract just hasn't been a gravy train like it was for Benni Mcarthney and Dyer etc.
Agree with most of that, but I think it was the fact that a person who was seen to be regularly contributing to the side was being far less rewarded that others who were not. Getting relegated certainly didn't help his cause, and the owners rightly looked to cut costs (but paid a premium for Nolan, which I happen to agree with, but is another reason to feel miffed if you have been waiting for negotiations for some time). You might not be happy with the potential wait, but you don't have much choice. Then the board make a special case for Tomkins (again it was probably necessary). If you were told there would be no negotiations during the season and then you see that happen on top of the previous situation it is bound to affect you. To lose Green after paying the likes of Ljunberg, Dyer, Upson & Benni Mac what we did does seem very short sighted to me. I'd love to know how highly Sam rates Green, as he may side with the board on this knowing we could get an equally good keeper for less. I hope he rates Green highly and he persuades both parties to sort it out.

Any news? I really hope we resign Green. Good keeper and a nice guy. Would love to have him here 3-4 more years.

He's with England. Traditionally these things are either sorted out before or after tournaments. My guess is we won't know till after England get knocked out of the Euros Just to cheer people up, it's worth noting that most keepers we would get would cost us something - maybe except Almunia, who's been released (and he's not as good as Green). If they're as good as Green they'll expect to be paid the same. So - without losing anything by comparison with alternatives - a 'signing on fee' for Green could be a few million (How much, for example, would Robinson cost?). That could be the key to keeping Green, especially if the owners think that continuity is important for the players we already have that we know will cut it in the Prem

Thanks man. Still dont understand why everyone wants Robinson from Blackburn here. He is ****. Just read an article about top keepers in Europe, and Robinson was the worst performer in PL. Just saved 57% of the shots on target or something, while Buffon had like 90%.

To be fair there, the worst keeper in the PL statistically the season before last was Green.

Woha. Did not know that. He is still a nice bloke though and had a very good season in the Championship imo.

I'm not having a go at Green, nor do I think Robinson is better. I just think that it's a bit unfair to judge Robinson based on stats and not do the same for the other keepers! The fact of the matter is that the "worst" keeper in the PL (statistically) pretty much always comes from a relegated team, for obvious reasons!

Cobblers. When we got relegated with David James he was statistically the best keeper in the league. Not on goals let in mind but on saves to shots ratio. It was because his goal was constantly getting peppered.

Just read that he is meant to be off. It's a shame but it appears that he doesn't want to be here, or G&S aren't satisfying his needs. It will be interesting to see how much he wanted and how much was offered if it comes out. Also it will be interesting to see where he goes, please not Sp*rs.

I'll be gutted if Green goes, it'll feel like a tiny bit of the club has gone aswell. Only a little bit mind.

We won't be able to afford him now STHs can get their 20%. We'll have to get Lansbury instead.

How do work that out then ? On what basis do you say he was the worst Keeper in the League statistically ?

If he goes, I wouldnt begrudge him. No doubt, there was an offer available to him last season (not necessairly from a "Big Four" or Top Half Prem team), but he remained at Upton Park. He played through the financial turmoil, the relegation scares, the relegation, the weak management, many gutless defenders, and managerial upheavel. He has done what he can for this club, and has contributed heavily in returning us to the promised land. If he is of the opinion that he can do nothing else with the Club, then I will respect that.
