Mertens does that quite often, these little cynical fouls, like elbows etc,for which he allready got suspended a few times.

Am surprised though and wondering why Kelly gets the nod above Micah Richards. Wondering which conflict is at the base of him being snubbed all the time, can't be based on talent.

For me it's obvious.

Like Michael Carrick, he doesn't want to play for his Country and would rather go to Dubai for his holidays.

Watched the game, and was very impressed with Belgium. Some great players they have.

As for us, I feel the Euro's could go either way....Either we end up like in 1992 or 2000 and a laughing stock, or we do what we did in Euro 1996. Don't see us winning it at all, and getting out of the awful group we have been put in will be a massive ask.

Heroic failure on penalties in the QF is my prediction :-)

Doesn't matter. Did what he had to do.

I'm struggling to see why Richards has not been chosen over Kelly. I reckon there's something the FA aren't letting on here.

Nothing to do with the FA, Richards didn't want to go on stand by and rather holiday than play for his country, simple as that. :thdn:

However, he should have been in the initial squad.

I can just about understand why some players don't want to be put on standby. I know playing for your country should be a great honour, but it must be frustrating having to delay doing other things to wait for a phone call that may never come. It has only really become an issue due to the number of players dropping out. Both Carrick and Richards should have been in the inital squad anyway.

For Cahill's injury, what the Belgium guy did wasn't nice. However, Cahill would not have been injured if he had cleared the ball or if Hart came to collect earlier. Poor defending from both gave caused the collision just as much as the push did in my opinion.

And 6 Liverpool players after their poor season doesn't look great. I hope Parker doesn't pull out soon or Spearing will be getting a call up next.

A bloke at work said today:

"That Cahill bloke is a cheat, making out he has a proper injury when he just has concussion!"

How wrong he was!

which just about sums it up. Richards is by far the best right back/centre half option but for some reason has been overlooked. None of the RB's chosen are as good.

Is Martens a distant Belgian relative of Joey Barton?

It was a deliberate, unnecessary and violent push - he should have been sent off.

With Cahill's withdrawal, I'm wondering what Martin Kelly has to offer as a better option than James Tomkins.

I see Rio's agent has had a hissy fit about his man being overlooked.

Fact is despite hating the man with a passion, Terry is now better then Rio.

End of really.

The aspects of it are complete bull**** but I think that is the only real reason.

Play well against bigger teams, then draw or lose to the likes of Montenegro, Azerbeidjswhatstheirname,...

I went (and so did about 10.000 other Belgians, it seems like this generation really has brought back interest in the national side) and despite the loss loved it.

Wembley is an impressive stadium, nothing really special like the old one but great to be at.

Unfortunate for Cahill, but I don't think he meant to break his jaw by that push.
It's not like England didn't commit some dirty fouls either.

I was shocked at England tbh, they won thanks to a great goal but Belgium pretty much dominated the entire game.

If only we had a player that could force a breakthrough I could have definitely seen us win by 3-4 goals.

Kelly better than Rio? Or Tomkins? Not à chance...
Henderson and Downing are also poor choises made by Hodgson (a guy I certainly prefer to Arry or C$pello)

But I don't mind... Being Swede...

Anybody know why this game was filmed from the other side of the stadium? First time I have seen it.

I assume it's because the other side of the pitch has the view of the freebie tickets leaving 10 minutes before half-time, rolling back 20 minutes after the break and leaving 10 minutes early to catch the tube.

You do have don't you, you have a few players that are capable of a breakthrough, one who has just cost an English Club 40m Euro's so that's not the reason.

The reason you couldn't break through us is because as a team you weren't good enough to do so as our we are very well organised, and we were, so we won.

Don't take it to heart though, the Spanish couldn't do it neither and again, we took our chance and beat them too.
