West Ham Utd 4-2 Burnley (03/11/18)

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
It's a fair question Cuenc' and I would opt for the first one as it would be:
1. A win
2. A clean sheet
3. It would show we know how to grind out a result, something which I'm not sure we are yet capable of.

both are a priority I reckon too..........seeing out a 1-0 win despite constant pressure would help the psyche too.

I must take issue with crouchend about this not being a six pointer. You're right of course but I strongly object to people coming on KUMB and talking reasonably and ca  lmly

unless they have changed things and I wasn't aware of it (likely though these days) they still only award 3 points for a win...so no game is EVER a 6 pointer...

And the ones labeled it rarely are. See our 4-1 loss at swansea last year

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
only thing is, the longer a good performance and a great win take, the more pressure is applied.
from players themselves, from the boss, from the press, from fans etc. etc. etc.
and sometimes players wonder "if I cock up do I get dropped" and others think "no matter what I do I won't ever get dropped"..................
right now with the injury list, some players are getting more time than they should.
and again, keep mixing and matching a team (not always the gaffers choice) doesn't help from continuity and players like Snodders are moved all over the place where they really are not the best to accommodate others and/or the need due to injuries or suspension.
Snodders needs NOT to get a yellow tomorrow or both him and Noble will miss the next game.

If we want a decent season we have to start this period off with a win and keep that momentum going. Given Burnleys form and us being West Ham I go in expecting a loss as it would be so typical but I really hope I am proven wrong.

appears as though some folks don't give a rat's arse about a decent season...
whatever decent season means......
as long as we play attractive football............which to be fair has only happened a few times in 13 games anyway.
and what does attractive football actually mean I wonder......??
loads of possession but not testing the goalkeeper ? several games
no possession and not been competitive ?? several games
back and forth game with possession, testing the keeper and scoring a few goals ? - twice so far.
I dunno - I suppose it means different things to different people.
progression on the pitch ? winning ? doing well in the cups ? top 10 finish ? top 7 finish ? avoiding relegation ? not in a dog fight at the bottom and watching other results more closely than our own ? a European excursion ?
not bitching about bad performances ? to some that's the be all and end all I guess.
maybe some of each - as I say I dunno

These things take time, lots of time, particularly with a new manager, new coaching team and a whole team of new players, many of whom have never played in this league.
The improvements are there to see, we are slowly progressing. We don't look like constantly shipping goals and we do look threatening going forward. We will get there, it probably won't be this season and it will take another 2 transfer windows, but so far, there has been clear progress since Pellegrini took over.
I'm hoping for some attractive football, a clean sheet and a win tomorrow against a tough opponent who finished 7th last season.

I saw one stats firm had Burnley's deserved position as bottom of the league. Not sure how Dyche gets his side to deliver the results they do.
We don't have the class or form for this to be anything other than a struggle, but I think we'll convert enough chances to win 2-1.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
This is a crunch game for Anderson. Burnley's right side is Premiership standard, but hardly world-beaters.
I'm only watching on television, but there does seem to be a little bit of uncertainty in the player's mind. Cynically, it looks a bit likes he's hiding, when we've got the ball. I am putting it down, perhaps sympathetically, to his not wanting to stray away from his allotted zone, so that he doesn't neglect defensive duties.
Needs to both
1. Get his head up and try to move forward, ball at feet, and
2. Get his corner kicks into the kind of shape that Snodgrass can.
However he does it, we need to see a bit more quality from him.
By rights, we should comfortably succeed in conceding fewer goals to (teams like) Burnley. I just cannot see another 0-3 reverse.
We've been rocked back a bit recently.
Time to come out fighting.

all we need to do is get behind him, and it will all come good...

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
a solid performance clean sheet and win will do tomorrow, they will try to score first and hope we turn on the players even if we go a goal down I hope the crowd stays behind the team especially Anderson, chico and Antonio, if selected,, those three a bit of support could make all the difference, I know they have to earn the cheers from the crowd but the first misplaced pass or mistake, if the jeers start the small bit of confidence they have will drain, hoping for 2 0 chico getting both

A quietly confident call on us winning this one - Dyche will set them up to play for the win and they will be tough to break down...but surely we can get the rub of the green we didn’t get in recent games. An early goal will settle nerves...there will be a few players on our side who will be looking over their shoulders - we need to get behind them. 3-1win

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Burnley: match thread (03/11)
hope we do get an early goal because usually Mr. Dyche sets everyone behind the ball, waits for the team and crowd to get frustrated and then unleashes his big lumps up front and goes for it in the last 30-20 minutes (counting down).Gerblatz wrote:A quietly confident call on us winning this one - Dyche will set them up to play for the win and they will be tough to break down...but surely we can get the rub of the green we didn’t get in recent games. that goal might make him try to come out a little.....and they need points too..trouble is I think he'll be more than happy with 1 away from home...so getting one before half time will be a key.....hopefully it's Mr. Anderson. it can hit him on the arse and go in, I don't care.....
