It's a huge risk taking a punt on an unproven manager, club legend (or cult-hero, however you see him) or not. Why doesn't he do what Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has done; he's seen as a possible future Man Utd boss, as he was highly thought of as reserve boss and (apparently) Fergie had taken him under his wing so to speak. But rather than try out at the big-time straight away, he's gone and taken the job at Molde. That way, he can gain experience in a lesser league and hopefully build up a CV good enough to take the Man Utd job in a few years. If Di Canio did that and succeeded, then we can discuss him coming here. Otherwise, no.

It's a shame Di Canio's post playing career never took off.

He did such a great job with Swindon back in the day.

Would have to guess he'd be completely unemployable in the UK nowadays, following that "Roman salute" when Lazio beat Roma. There definitely seemed to be some potential in his management career, at that time, but Sunderland was definitely a step too far.

Sunderland fan at work loves him, just because he lived rent free in Newcastle fan’s heads for a few months.
