Laptop advice

Postby 1011Iron on Thu Mar 01, 2012 1:47 pm

Hi all,

I am buying a new laptop in the next week or two and would appreciate any advice. I know there's some pretty clued up people on here when it comes to computers.

Got a fairly modest budget of £400 or so, have found an Acer 7740 with 6GB RAM, intel i3 processor, decent size hard drive etc. Which is about the best spec I could find for the money.

Wondered if anyone knows of any cheap outlets, or places to buy refurbished laptops, where I might be able to eke a bit more out of my budget!

Thanks in advance for any help

porn aside, what do you need the laptop for? work (what kind), amusement, both?
ebay is a good place for refurbished stuff, but has harlow said, better ask dyer's leg first.

I got one of these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fujitsu-AH530 ... 4ab4af7350

This is more than fine for me, runs Football Manager well, and only used for that and surfing the web, excellent Value, if you want a higher spec they have others which all seem good value aswell.

Great machine , not very portable , but excellent , and from John Lewis , you get a very good return policy.

PC world are doing a decent samsung with 2nd gen i3, 500GB, 6GB RAM for £479.99. Cracking laptop for the money, reduced from £679.99.

Or if you want a bit more storage, then this Toshiba isn't too shabby. Slightly better specs too.

At the very least, check out Dell Outlet before you spend a penny. Six months ago I picked up an I7-based Studio for £500.

I'm in the same boat for the same price. It's for my son who is a big gamer (Minecraft  ) which surprisingly makes my desktop nearly take off...
I will probably go to PC world as I am a stickler for having some comeback. Might look at Dell as well.
I am a bit of a twat when it comes to computers and what is required......What would I definitely need in a bundle, like I say he is a gamer predominantly.

Thanks in advance
