Ahmed Elmohamady wanted by West Ham

AHMED Elmohamady is wanted by promotion- chasing West Ham.

Sunderland’s Egyptian winger admitted this week that his future may lie away from Wearside, after failing to make a single start under Martin O’Neill.

And the Hammers could offer him an escape route – but only if Sam Allardyce’s side return to the Premier League.

Elmohamady is only interested in joining another top-flight side in England and that means any move to Upton Park would depend on how West Ham fare in the play-offs if they fail to secure automatic promotion

The 24-year-old appears to have no future at Sunderland under O’Neill, after being restricted to just 32 minutes in seven sub appearances since the Irishman took over at the beginning of December.

O’Neill even allowed him to link up with his national side for a training camp this month.

WEST HAM LEGEND TONY COTTEE CALLS FOR PROMOTION PUSH

TONY COTTEE has told West Ham to show some bottle as they battle for a return to the Premier League.

And Hammers legend Cottee has urged Sam Allardyce to send his players on a ruthless Fox hunt to secure a chance of snatching a top flight berth through the Championship play-offs.

West Ham’s bid for an automatic promotion place was undone by a run of five consecutive draws last month.

Despite that, Portuguese striker Ricardo Vaz Te, 25, has scored ten goals in 11 games since his £500,000 move from Barnsley in January.

And Cottee says he’s confident Allardyce can bring new momentum in his squad to help secure promotion in a play-off final at Wembley.

West Ham face Leicester, another of Cottee’s former clubs, at the King Power Stadium tomorrow.

And the ex-England striker says Allardyce and the likes of Vaz Te should use their remaining fixtures to launch their glory bid.

He said: “The one thing that the Hammers will need between now and the end of the season is momentum – and that starts by winning their last two league games, starting with Leicester tomorrow night.

“I know the Foxes fans like to make the most of their last home game of the season.

“But the one thing that could work in West Ham’s favour is that Leicester are playing for nothing now that they cannot reach the play-offs.

“West Ham must win to build confidence and I think that they should just about manage to get back to winning ways.

“Now we will find out whether this West Ham team has the bottle to perform under pressure. It is time for the players to stand up and be counted. There is nowhere left to hide.

“Then all being well, with the final at Wembley, it would feel like another away day, which can only help.”

Hammers skipper Kevin Nolan believes West Ham will return to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Nolan, who went up with Bolton in similar style, said: “I am confident if we have to go through the play-offs for promotion we will do it.

“You have to be confident and we are as a team.

“We’ve had a lot of changes but have come a long way in a short space of time.

“I think everyone at the club deserves praise for how they’ve helped – from players to behind-the-scenes staff.”

West Ham have the biggest squad, the highest wage bill and are the best supported side in the Championship.

Nolan, 29, signed a five-year deal at Upton Park following his £3.5million transfer from Newcastle and a £50,000-a-week contract.

It’s the third time he has played under Allardyce – Newcastle and Bolton being the other clubs they have worked together.

Allardyce also made him captain and Newcastle will be cheering on West Ham as they will receive an extra £500,000 for him if they go up.

Nolan added: “We’ve had a lot of pressure on us all season.

“We were in the top two for a long spell. We’re third now only because we have drawn more than we have lost.

“At the end of the day, we want to give our fans what they deserve and that’s being back in the Premier League.”

Hammer blow for quartet

West Ham have injury doubts over Carlton Cole, George McCartney, Joey O'Brien and Gary O'Neil ahead of the trip to Leicester.

Striker Cole should be fit after missing Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Bristol City with a slight knee injury.
Full-backs McCartney (concussion) and O'Brien (thigh) were also absent at Ashton Gate and will be checked over along with midfielder O'Neil, who has been struggling with a groin problem.
Winger Julien Faubert returned as a substitute against City after missing the previous three matches due to a hamstring injury so he could be recalled to the starting line-up.
Centre-back Abdoulaye Faye and striker Sam Baldock are pushing to return to the squad after missing out in midweek.

Boffin leaves Hammers

Goalkeeper Ruud Boffin has parted company with West Ham after having his contract with the npower Championship club cancelled by mutual consent.

The 24-year old Belgian joined the Hammers in September 2010 to serve as cover for first-choice keeper Robert Green, but made just three appearances for the promotion-chasing east London club.
A statement on whufc.co.uk said: "West Ham United would like to thank Ruud for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future."
