On the move?: West Ham's Robert Green celebrating the play-off final victory

Baggies in for England's Green as Hammers contract nears its end

England's Rob Green could be unsettled as West Brom try to sign him.

His West Ham deal expires next month and contract talks have stalled over his wage demands, allowing Albion to step in.

Green, 32, has 12 senior caps for England and is in the squad for Euro 2012.

Dost joins Wolfsburg

Dutch striker Bas Dost, a reported target of Premier League new boys West Ham, has joined VFL Wolfsburg.

The 23-year-old, the Eredivisie's top scorer with 32 goals for Heerenveen last season, was linked with a £7million switch to Upton Park.
However, Dost has opted to move to German side Wolfsburg where he has signed a five-year contract.
"Bas has in the last few years taken a great development," head coach Felix Magath told the club's official website.
"He is eminently prepared to take risks, a strong penalty box player who knows where the opponent's goal is."

Elmohamady Admits He's Close To West Ham Move

Sam Allardyce is looking to raid his old club for Ahmed Elmohamady, and a deal could be done this week.

It's been speculated for a while now that Ahmed Elmohamady would be departing the Stadium Of Light this summer as part of Martin O'Neill's rebuilding work, and following his part in Egypt's 2-0 win over Mozambique in a 2014 World Cup Qualifier, he spoke about a move South.

In a brief phone interview following the game, Elmohamady told leading Egyptian Sports Broadcaster "Modern Sport";

West Ham are in talks with me. There could be something next week.

Elmohamady has never shied away from questions about his future, and earlier in the season admitted he was probably on the way out of the North East, which comes as little surprise really.

The 24-year old right back-come-right winger has never really found a great run of form or even managed to hold on to a position in the team with any great security, and if the rumoured fee of anywhere between £1.5m and £2.5m can be met, it would be a good bit of business from our side of things, and for him personally as he's likely to get much more of a game at West Ham.

Much maligned by fans, he could never be accused of not trying, just lacking in quality. Perhaps it will come for him in time, he's still young enough, he just doesn't seem to fit with us, and there's even less chance of him fitting in if we move to O'Neill moves us into more of a 4-3-3 formation as is expected.

The newly promoted Hammers have been linked with Elmohamady from the moment the season ended pretty much, and have also been linked with moves for George McCartney who was on loan there last season as well as Kieran Richardson. Take McCartney, but please stay away from Richardson!

Elmo is currently on international duty with Egypt until June 10th when the Pharaohs play Guinea on that day, but he could be a West Ham player by then if all goes as well as he himself seems to think it is.

He’s over here, Roy

England’s narrow friendly victory in Oslo over Norway, threw up injury doubts over the nation’s most talented defensive midfielders, Gareth Barry and Scotty Parker, which sparked calls from East London for our very own Mark Noble to step into the fray for his country.

The decision to crown the Canning Town born midfielder the Hammer of the Year only three weeks earlier had been met with mixed opinions from various contingents of West Ham fans, with some believing James Tomkins to be more deserving of the award.

Noble himself has no doubt enjoyed one of his finer seasons under Sam Allardyce’s tutorage, amassing 8 goals with 7 from the penalty spot, goals that have made a huge impact on our end of season points tally.

Two games completely stick out in memory however, reminding the Upton Park faithful of the young energetic teenager that burst on the scene in aid to fight relegation towards the end of the 2006/07 season. The two home games to our friendly neighbours across the water and Southampton in the first half of February proved to be exhilarating games with both providing a sending off for Sam’s men in the first 25 minutes of the game. Both matches resulted in the Hammers losing a crucial midfielder to their ranks in Kevin Nolan and Matty Taylor, requiring Mark Noble to almost treble his running ground throughout the 90 minutes. Sam certainly wasn’t let down by the club’s longest serving player with dynamic passing, tackles timed to complete perfection and a range of leadership qualities largely unseen whilst playing under the shadow Scotty Parker or Kevin Nolan.

However, on being present as a spectator during all the frustrating home draws to Watford, Doncaster Rovers and Middlesbrough, it cannot be denied that Noble was one of the primary guilty candidates for giving the ball away and the negative ideas in attacking possession. Something was certainly not right either in the midfield’s formation or psychology, possibly taking for granted attacking quality and talent in thinking gaps may eventually appear in below-par defences such as that of relegated Doncaster Rovers. Dropped points that in reality ruined our chances of automatic promotion with Reading’s surge up the top half of the table.

Form was certainly recaptured by Noble in April, enough to claim the Hammer of the Year prize, with impressive performances by the defensive midfielder in the Brighton game and all the play off fixtures when it really, really mattered.

A last minute call up is certainly unlikely, with Jordan Henderson’s last minute call up earlier in the week, but by no means to not be ruled out for the future with a return to the elite stage of domestic football beginning in August, if performances to the standard of the Milwall and Southampton games are to be replicated, a call up will be deserved!

Sir Alex Ferguson has been told that Manchester United will have to pay a combined £72m to land his top targets - but he will not splash out that amount on the three players. They are Tottenham's Luka Modric, 26, Everton's Leighton Baines, 27, and Newcastle's Cheick Tiote, 25.

Mail on Sunday

Sun on Sunday

Roy Hodgson may have a 100% England record but his team look unlikely to strike the fear of God into their main Euro 2012 rivals.

Sun on Sunday

England were often careless in possession and their best department was the game's least beautiful, defending. But, for a second match under Hodgson, England wore down more expressive opponents and won 1-0. If they keep it going, they could make an impact at Euro 2012.

Sunday Times (subscription required)

The real tests await Hodgson's England far away in the east of Europe but they will travel with a measure of serenity. At this stage, and with this team, it is the most we can reasonably expect.

Mail on Sunday

Hodgson has two wins from two and while there is a lot of work to do, England have at least a solid platform to work from.

Sunday Telegraph

Wembley paid homage to their heroes - it is just a pity they were Sir Bobby Charlton, Peter Shilton and David Beckham.

The Manchester United boys appear to be taking out their title frustration on England's opponents. For now, England will settle for a winning - if largely unimpressive - send-off to Euro 2012.

Daily Star Sunday

This was hardly a performance to return all the public confidence that has eroded in the preceding months and, at times, it was galling once again to see the absence of care that was applied to the ball, the lack of movement in advanced positions and the shortage of activity in the opposition penalty area.

Firstly Cheers CH as always. Secondly, no way would WBA pay more than 40k per week on Greeno. They are not that sort of club. I reckon he will go to the Spuds or maybe QPR. Much as I hate to say it.

I wonder if bonuses change anything for anyone in any national squad. For majority of players they are one week's pay for the two weeks job, in poorer FAs even less. So, where is the logic in having any bonus at all? Either you play for your country or you are playing for the money.

QPR and Tottenham lead the chase for West Ham’s star man

Co-owner David Gold reveals that Robert Green will leave this summer

England goalkeeper Robert Green could stay in London when his six-year association with West Ham ends this summer, with both QPR and Tottenham rumoured to be interested in bringing him in on a free transfer.

After weeks of speculation, it was unofficially confirmed by both co-owner David Gold and his partner David Sullivan’s son on Twitter that Green had turned down their offer of a new contract to replace the one expiring imminently.

Amidst demands from fans to “keep him at all costs” and “give him what he wants”, Gold revealed that: “Green is a free agent; he has chosen to move on. Matthew Upson did the same thing.”

The news, while somewhat expected after the shot-stopper linked up with the England squad without having agreed an extension, is a significant blow to the Irons’ 12/5-rated chances of surviving their first season back in the Premier League.

Though the former Norwich custodian is regularly ridiculed by rival fans for his mistake for England at the last World Cup, he has been West Ham’s most impressive and dependable performer since arriving from Carrow Road in 2006.

His likely replacement will be manager Sam Allardyce’s long-term number one at Bolton, Jussi Jaaskelainen, who is leaving the club following their relegation and being displaced by Adam Bogdan as first choice.

Other candidates are Manuel Almunia, who had a successful loan spell at the Boleyn Ground, Paul Robinson and Craig Gordon, but negotiations with Jaaskelainen are thought to be at an advanced stage.

QPR are considered the favourites to sign Green, given their ability to both improve his wages and provide first-team football, whereas Spurs – who can offer European action – are anticipated to stick with veteran Brad Friedel.

Another option that has been mentioned are 50/1 Champions League newcomers Malaga, however the extent of their interest is as yet unclear.

Sunderland race London clubs for Mohamed Diame

SUNDERLAND are facing competition from West Ham and QPR in the race to sign Senegal international Mohamed Diame.

Midfielder Diame is available on a Bosman free transfer after leaving Wigan Athletic and was expected to join Liverpool until Kenny Dalglish’s sacking scuppered that deal.

Sunderland are hoping to step in and sign the 24-year-old, but the Black Cats will have to convince Diame that his future lies in the North East rather than in London with either QPR or the newly-promoted Hammers.

Clubs from France, Spain and Turkey have also shown interest in Diame, but the former Rayo Vallecano man has indicated that he wants to remain in the Premier League.

Someone needs to have a quiet word with whoever prepares the text news alert things for Vodafone. They've read Gold's tweets and have apparently sent out messages to people announcing that both Green and Matthew Upson are leaving this summer!

Replacement: The Hammers are set to sign Bolton veteran Jussi Jaaskelainen

Green leaves West Ham with Big Sam set to sign Jaaskelainen from Bolton

West Ham chairman David Gold has confirmed England goalkeeper Rob Green will leave the club this summer.

Green, 32, will be out of contract at the end of June and has not agreed new terms despite the Hammers' promotion back to the Barclays Premier League.

Former captain Matthew Upson left Upton Park as a free agent last year and Green is now set to follow suit having been linked with Tottenham, QPR, West Brom and Spanish side Malaga.

Gold wrote on Twitter: 'Robert Green is a free agent he has chosen to move on. Matthew Upson did the same thing.'

He added: 'Nobody wants Rob to leave but nothing is for ever, he must do what is best for him and we must do what is best for us.'

Green was an unused substitute as England beat Belgium 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday in their final warm-up ahead of Euro 2012.

He joined the Hammers from Norwich for £2million in 2006 and made 241 appearances.

Manager Sam Allardyce has lined up Bolton's Jussi Jaaskelainen as Green's replacement.

It is understood that the 37-year-old, who is also out of contract, will sign next week subject to passing a medical.

Jaaskelainen will compete with Stephen Henderson, whose loan move from Portsmouth became permanent last month, to be the club's No 1 next season.
