And if the 35-year-old can prove his fitness he will get a two-year deal at Upton Park.
Guti is available on a free and has been without a club since Turkish side Besiktas released him in November last year.
Barry O'Connor, who looks after Guti's affairs in England, said:: "West Ham will make a final decision before the next season starts. I cannot discuss what terms could be offered."
Guti has made more than 500 appearances and is one of Spain's most decorated players.

Birmingham missed out but now Albion are baulking at the £5m asking price, valuing the 29-year-old at nearer £3m.
Foster has attracted interest from QPR and Tottenham, but wants to stay in the Midlands.
And now new West Brom boss Steve Clarke could turn instead to Green if the Foster deal falls down.
He knows Green from his spell at Upton Park as Gianfranco Zola’s No.2 but wages could be an issue. Manchester City are trying to sell Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz to raise funds to buy Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.

Guti? Not sure about this one. Not sure how old Ivan Campo was when Sam brought him to Bolton but if I remember correctly Campo did well for Bolton. However I can't see Guti being the Ivan Campo of West Ham.

The idea that Green hasn't already got next season and beyond sewn up (West Brom giving him a 'lifeline') is absurd. He wouldn't leave us without having a cast iron contract in place elsewhere, given that he was offered a contract here, apparently on improved terms. The Press....why do we bother eh?

Jussi, Yakubu and now Guti! Any chance we could sign someone under 30 and not looking simply to fund his pension off us?

Cheers CH as always. Could always look at the positive side and read Guti as another Campo or Hierro, you never know?

Look at scholes @ Man U. Class. Guti is a little younger and age is becoming less of a problem it seems. If he has kept himself fit, we may get a player to bring on with 20 mins to go if we are looking to keep the ball. Imagine the sideways passes between Guti & Noble...
