West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is ready to hand Senegalese midfielder Momo Diame a £7million, three-year deal as he fights to win the race for his signature.
Allardyce is close to signing the former Wigan powerhouse, who is a free agent now his Latics contract has expired - and open to offers after the collapse of a move to Liverpool.
Hammers are prepared to offer such a lucrative package because they feel Diame will prove one of the best ‘Bosmans’ around if he stays for the full length of the deal and helps the Premier League-bound Londoners retain top flight status.
If Diame accept and passes a medical, he will add power to the newly-promoted club’s engine room.
The 25-year-old met then-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish to discuss a move to Anfield just days before the Scot was sacked.
With the Kop's new boss Brendan Rodgers evidently not keen, Diame has been looking for a new home since, with Sunderland and QPR also among his admirers.

According to the newspapers it’s been a busy week for West Ham in terms of transfers- Sam Allardyce’s been in Italy, David Gold’s been on Twitter claiming we’ve got bids for 2 players and negotiating with players on free transfers and we’ve also signed our second goalkeeper of the summer in Jussi Jaaskelainen. Here’s a quick guide to all the players we’ve been linked with.
Mohamed Diame –It’s been reported that Mohammed Diame is said to be in negotiations to join us after leaving Wigan Athletic on a free transfer. Diame has been on a number of clubs’ radars and was reported to be on the verge of a move to Liverpool before Kenny Dalglish left the club. The 24-year-old played an important for Wigan last season scoring three goals. He would definitely add something to our midfield but are players needed more pressingly in other positions?
Yakubu – He was Blackburn Rovers’ top scorer with 17 goals last season and it has been claimed that due to a relegation clause in his contract he is available for £1m. He is a great player on his day and has a good scoring record and but some fans have questioned whether he turn into another Benni McCarthy.
Matt Jarvis – Sky Sports have reported that we have had a £4 million bid for Matt Jarvis turned down by Wolverhampton Wanderers. It’s not surprising that Wolves want more for one of their most bankable assets. Jarvis has yet to confirm his intentions
for next season but if he wants to add to his solitary England Cap then he may have to return to the Premiership. He’s still young (26) and has an eye for goal (8 goals last season) and would be a good signing at the right price.
- Eljero Elia/ Milos Krasic / Luc Castaignos – According to Sky Sports Italy Sam Allardyce has been spotted there and is reported to be talking business with a number of Italian clubs. Apparently one of the players he is keen on is Dutch international left winger Eljero Elia. Elia has had a transfer request accepted and could be an alternative to Matt Jarvis. Another Juventus player West Ham are linked with is right winger Milos Krasic. The 27 year old Serb had a good debut season at the Italian club but fell out of favour last season making only seven appearances. He would be a great signing but will probably prefer a move to the likes of Liverpool. Another Italian based player we’ve been linked with is Inter Milan striker Luc Castaignos. Castaignos is only 19 and a great prospect but might prefer a loan move back to Holland.

Danny Simpson – We’ve also been linked with Newcastle right-back Danny Simpson along with a number of other clubs such as a QPR and Fulham. Simpson is expected to leave St James Park this summer and has reportedly to have turned a contract offer. Again this is a position many of us want strengthening especially with Julien Faubert leaving!
Victor Wanyama – Along with Liverpool, Stoke City and Newcastle United we’ve been linked with Wanyama. The 20-year-old Kenyan central defender/midfielder is at Celtic and scored four goals last season. He cost Celtic £900k last summer but Celtic reportedly want closer to £5-6m for him. He looks to be a similar
type of player to Diame so I think we will only try to sign of 1 of the 2 players.
Modibo Maiga – We are also reportedly in the chase for 25 year old Sochaux & Mali striker who is rated at £4 million. He scored nine goals in 17 starts last season – including five in his last seven matches but there are question marks of his overall fitness including a long term knee injury.
