Wanted: Dynamo Kiev striker Brown Ideye is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs[/color]

deye sets heart on £9m Newcastle move as West Ham, Swansea and Stoke lead chase

Nigerian striker Brown Ideye is set for a move to the Barclays Premier League in the summer and has his heart set on Newcastle.

The £9million-rated player has had spells in Switzerland and France but is currently at Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev where goals in this season's Champions League have attracted him to top clubs.

There is interest from Swansea, West Ham and Stoke, but the player's agent revealed he wants a move to the North East.
Wanted: Brown Ideye is attracting interest from the Premier League

'There has been a lot of interest from English clubs, but Newcastle would be Brown’s preferred choice for a number of reasons,' said agent Hootan Ahmadi.

'They have a good fan-base and play an attacking style of football. He has good knowledge of the club and of the Premier League. Brown would love to test himself at that level.'

He cost Dynamo Kiev £7million from French side Sochaux two years ago and his stock has been boosted by winning the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria in January. He was twice man-of-the-match in the tournament.

'He would like to move to England and we will look at all our options in the summer,' Ahmadi added to The Journal.

Can Ravel Morrison Make an Impact Next Season?

The answer is probably yes, but it also begs the supplementary question whether will it be at West Ham, Birmingham City or elsewhere. Ravel Morrison is a very talented young footballer. Indeed, he has the ability to become a top PL forward. His talent has never bee in doubt, but it was feared that the same could not be said about his attitude and application. That is ultimately why Manchester Utd called time on Morrison and made the decision to sell him to West Ham. There is no doubt that even the greatest natural football talents can fail to make it if the hard work and correct attitude is not present. It seemed that this was the very large dark cloud over the shining light of his talent. And the fact that Morrison was loaned out so quickly seemed to indicate that 'the writing was on the wall' for his West Ham career.

Yet, there is new hope that Ravel Morrison may be buckling down and taking his talent and career in the right direction. He has earnt some outstanding reviews for his displays whilst on loan at Birmingham City and, his manager, Lee Clark has commented that Morrison has made significant progress both on and off the pitch. So much so, that Clark has stated that he would like to secure Morrison's services on loan for a second season. It will certainly be interesting to see how West Ham react in the summer. In particular, will they acknowledge his progress and bring him back in to the West Ham first team squad for pre-season training? We could certainly do with a forward of his technique and ability, adding some much needed extra guile. It could happen if Morrison proves that he has turned over a new leaf and now has greater dedication and maturity to his unquestioned natural ability. Lets hope that it goes the right way.

After the Manchester City match, Sam Allardyce made the point that West Ham needed to improve the quality of the squad next season in order to push on. Although he did not put it as diplomatically as he might have done. Perhaps that was because he wanted to send out a clear and unambiguous message to the West Ham board. Regardless, last Sunday's match perfectly illustrated where we currently stand as a club. We have done exceptionally well this season. We have some very good players and organisation and team spirit have been the additional factors that have stood us in good stead. On Sunday, we faced a team which player for player is unquestionably superior. Yet, we overcome a ropey first 45 minutes and actually came back and made a game of it in the second half. Yes, we went down 2-1, but we were competitive and far from disgraced on the day. If only we can introduce improved quality in to the mix then the team can improve next season.

The question is who will supply that additional quality? The names of new summer acquisitions have started to circulate. These include: Romanian international left-back Rat, QPR goal keeper Ceasar, his QPR team mate Remy, Wilfred Bony, Jordan Rhodes, Noel Hunt and others. A collateral question is therefore whether West Ham will pursue the signing of Andy Carroll or look at other alternative options? Might the club try to pull off a surprise signing of a young and emerging star, like Redmond at Birmingham City or Hughes at Derby County? And what does all of this mean for the club developing its own talent? Both Spence and Potts should gain greater first team exposure next season, while the likes of Turgott, Lee, Moncur, Hall and Chambers should all compete for starting places or the bench.

It also begs the question, who will be heading for the exit this summer. Personally, I think that both O'Brien and O'Neill have underlined their value to the squad, this season, and should stay with the club. Can one say the same of Henderson, Demel, Taylor, Maiga, Diarra, Vaz Te and Carlton Cole? Of these, Henderson's days seem to be numbered at the club, Maiga also seems to be surplus to requirements (as unfair as that decision seems), Taylor is past his sell by date at PL level and Diarra will almost definitely make a permanent move away from Upton Park. While Demel has recently been given a new contract and will probably be retained and Carlton Cole is likely to be given a 'take it or leave it' of another 1 or 2 year contract. As for Vaz Te, I think that he will still be with us next season. Elsewhere, Robert Hall is allegedly out of contract in the summer and is stalling on signing a new deal. That has to be an issue of concern, given Hall's undoubted potential.

Finally, we face a relegated threatened Newcastle Utd side at home, this Saturday. No doubt Carroll and Nolan will be eager to do well against their former club. I am going for a 3-1 home victory. COYI!

The View From The Opposition - Newcastle United

..

With three games of the season left West Ham take on Newcastle in a game that the away side really cannot afford to lose given their increasingly perilous position in the league.

West Ham lie in 10th place on 42 points and will be looking to consolidate a top half finish whereas Newcastle know that they must pick up something to ease their worries.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is suffering from a similar dip in form to that when he was at West Ham when after an excellent first Premiership season the wheels firmly came off and that is exactly what is happening to him now.

West Ham go into the game with confidence even after the 2-1 defeat away at Manchester City last week.

This week we talk to a couple of Newcastle supporters who have kindly agreed to answer the question which have been supplied by the members of westhamonline.net

First up is Julian Ryan who you can follow on Twitter @sirjulianryan

And the second Newcastle fan is Ryan Cairns who is also on Twitter @Cairns955

As Pardew's Newcastle kick more long balls than Allardyce's West Ham, and get less success in the process, do you expect your current manager to be hounded out of your club the same way Big Sam was?

Julian: If we go down, yes. Many fans are already saying he should go after one bad season (fickle? us? never.) What you say is partly true - last season we often went 4-3-3 which was the key to our success with Ben Arfa playing as the 3rd striker just behind the other two. With him missing most of the season there has been a lot more 4-4-2 with the two front men very wide so there has been a lot of hoofing it long and to say it hasn't worked is an understatement.

I still say if we hadn't have sacked Big Sam we wouldn't have gone down that season but to say he was hounded out is totally wrong. Ashley came in and immediately tried to become 'one of them' (I cant say 'one of us' as im not a Geordie) by seizing on a bit of dis-satisfaction from the fans towards sams playing style and lining up kevin keegan as a present to the fans which as we know went horribly wrong. The sky sports news image of about 5 blokes chanting 'you don't know what youre doing' at one match is not representative of the whole stadium.

Ryan: Well I thought he was going to be 'hounded out' around January time. During the 2-1 home defeat to Reading there were chants of "You don't know what you're doing!" and every substitution he made that game was booed. I didn't expect him to last much longer after that game as many fans were beginning to turn on him. After that game though we went on a bit of a spending spree which give us a boost and we hit a little form winning 4 of our next 6 league games and progressing into the quarter finals of the Europa League. I do believe that bought him some time but I think as of now the majority of the fans want to see him go.

We do however understand it would be suicidal to sack him now but I think most will be calling for his head at the end of the season (Even if we stay up). In my opinion if it was earlier in the season and we were playing the way we are now you'd see a scene similar to when Allardyce was in charge with fans calling for his head at every home game. As we're deep in a relegation battle and desperate for points even us thick Geordies understand it would only be detrimental to the team to chant Pardew out.

Should you bin Pardew at the end of the season?

Julian: I say no. if we go down (which wouldn't surprise me in the least) I think he could get us back up. hes on an 8 year contract after all! a lot of fans will call for his head wether we go down or stay up but all ive ever known in 25 years of supporting NUFC is no stability whatsoever either in the boardroom or the managers office. Things just started to calm down under hughton and what did the club do? sack him.

If we stay up then I cant see any reason to get rid unless of course Mourinho wants a crack at the job.

Ryan: Yes. I'll be honest he was given a hard task this season with the lack of investment in the summer. However his negative tactics and stubbornness to change have been the key problems this season. He doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes. There's been so many games when we've been leading and thrown it away by just sitting on the edge of our box trying to defend for 45, 60 or even 75 mins!

Where would you consider to be a reasonable finishing position next season - assuming you dont go down this season?

Julian: I can't see why we couldn't finish anywhere between 6th and 8th maybe 10th at worst if we can overhaul the squad and add some quality. Gone are the days when we expect to be in the top 4/5/6 as a minimum (contrary to popular belief, us 'over expectant' nufc fans don't expect to win the PL every year). Nowdays its all about survival in the PL at all costs.

Its a shame that's what the club has become and its seen as success just to survive but if you've got someone like Ashley at the helm whos not known for splashing the cash (unless its in a casino) then that's how things are going be from now on and as fans we have to accept it until he decides to sell the club and move on.

Ryan: I can see there being a massive shake up in the summer. I can see us selling 'star' players such as Cabaye and Ben Arfa which I wouldn't be too gutted about as I believe it's necessary. Players like Cabaye have shown no guts or heart this season and in my opinion he is one of the most overrated players in the Premier League. He had a good back end to last season but he's no where near as good as people make out. When you hear some of the numbers being thrown around that teams are apparently willing to pay then I'd definitely cash in!

As it will most likely be a 'new' team that still needs working on next season I think just staying in the league should be good enough. I like to think I'm just realistic.

Alan Shearer - Humourless Twonk who ruined his reputation by using you to find out he is a useless manager or Legend that dragged you to the dizzy heights of mediocrity?

Julian: Bit harsh this one! The club was in such a mess at the time and the damage was done and long before that infamous 8-game spell. We knew we were going down that season whatever happened. It was one last desperate throw of the dice by a clueless owner who had made numerous bad decisions since he had taken over.

Even the harshest nufc critic would say Shearer was on a hiding to nothing when he took it on and I may be wrong but I don't remember him making any promises to keep us up. Needless to say the fans don't blame him for taking us down and about a year or so ago Derek Lambias said something along the lines of 'the fans all love shearer but hes the man that got us relegated'. Could you imagine your board criticising Bobby Moore?

Funny thing is going down is the best thing that could have happened to us because we cleared out the dead wood and came back stronger. We were rarely off the top spot and found the Championship a breeze, unlike some clubs who have to scrape back up via the play offs!

And Alan Shearer humourless? Yes absolutely!

Ryan: Well I'm probably not the best to answer this question as I am not the biggest fan of Mr Shearer. From my experiences of seeing this man in person he's an arrogant tosser. Then again I have to acknowledge his loyalty to us and give him credit for the 206 goals he scored and almost single-handedly dragging us to two FA Cup finals in 98 and 99. However though I hope I never see him at my football club ever again and I'll create a third option.

He's a Weetabix head who scored some canny goals.

What effect does having the away fans up in the gods have on the atmosphere at St James' Park?

Julian: Not a great deal. Loud fans will be heard, quiet ones wont be. More and more clubs aren't putting away fans in the lower tier behind the goal any more so its something you accept at most grounds. Its not as though its a new thing - since St James Park was re built the away fans have always been up there. If you're further away you just have to sing louder!

Ryan: From my experiences nearly every Premier League ground has a poor atmosphere. Sadly this is definitely the case at St James' and I don't think having the away fans in the upper tier helps. I think sometimes in 'lesser' games away fans are the key to atmospheres. They normally sing more frequently than home fans and can help wake home fans up. This is why I think having away fans in the lower bowl could improve the atmosphere at St James' as the 'banter' between the fans would be better than listening to 3,000 fans in the clouds singing on their own. I sit in the Leazes end underneath the away fans and unless it's a big game the only noise you hear is the away fans singing as we all sit there making no noise while the odd bloke sticks two fingers up at them now and again.

Who have been your best and most disappointing players this season?

Julain: Best have been Tim Krul although he's missed two chunks of the season through injury.

Captain Colo has been great again although not as consistent as last season.

Sissoko has been very impressive too although weve only had him since January.

As for worst how long have you got? I seem to be the only one not in the slightest bit impressed with Debuchy (the fans hate danny simpson but I think hes far better). I love Steven Taylor to bits but this has been far from his best season.

Williamson is so out of his depth in the PL its a joke. Cabaye, tiote and cisse have been a shadow of the players they were last year. The worst has to be Gutierrez - totally over rated and seemingly un-droppable. If I had my way hed be first out the door. He has the trickery but very little end product. I just cant see what he offers the team.

Ryan: Firstly it's hard to think of any good performers this season and there's too many to choose from for most disappointing! I think I'll go for Sylvain Marveaux for our best player this season. Despite not really doing anything special this season with Ben Arfa being out he's the only player who looks like he's got a bit of creativity in our team. For most disappointing I've got to go for Cabaye. I already went over how I feel he's overrated but after getting promoted to captain due to the absence of Coloccini he's shown no leadership skills on or off the pitch and doesn't look like he really cares.

Is Newcastle United's current form dip down to the 'Cockney Mafia' again? The ones who're not from London, like Mike Ashley.

Julain: It's down to injuries, suspensions for silly sending offs, the season cathching up with a thin squad, players like Cabaye, Tiote and Cisse being woefully out of form and the fact we are now largely a 442 team when 433 served us so well last year.

Ashley is an easy target and im somewhere in the middle where hes concerned. Our problem all season has been the fact that we should of strengthened at the end of last season knowing that we already needed 3 or 4 good quality players to take us to the next level and that games in the Europa League would mean extra demands on a very thin squad. Apart from a few unknowns we only signed one established player (Anita from ajax) who has turned out to be rubbish. Ok we signed 5 in January but we were already in trouble then and although sissoko has been brilliant the other 4 have been ok but not outstanding.

Ashley wants the club to be financially stable and be top of the league when it comes to clubs who are not in debt which I can understand totally but doesn't seem to worry that if you want a winning team the 2 don't go together.

The Cockney Mafia thing was a little over played, I think that banner was at 2 possibly 3 games and it was just a way for fans to voice their displeasure at a guy coming up from down south and slamming shut the cheque book after wed been used to years of big name , money-no-object signings.

Ryan: I wouldn't put all the blame this season on the board but they've made a good contribution. Last season we were lucky with the lack of injuries we sustained as we knew we were short of depth. For us to compete in Europe and have a good league campaign everyone in Newcastle knew we needed more depth. Well everyone but Llambias and Ashley it seems.

To only sign one player senior player and sell four was ridiculous. We paid the price as the injuries built up and our lack of depth was evident. To be fair to them they tried to put it right in January by signing five players but they then didn't replace our top scorer as they didn't seem to have a back up plan if the Remy deal fell through. It looks as if that mistake could quite well cost us our Premier League place.

And Buckinghamshire , Reading, London whatever! You Southerners all sound the same to us!

How disappointed were you when the first Aldi opened in Newcastle when you discovered that they in fact have standard supermarket opening hours?

Julian: Oh dear , not very original. that one has been doing the rounds on twitter for months. anyway theres plenty of 24hour pubs in Newcastle which is much more important than 24hour food shops.

Ryan: A divvnt gan in them posh fancy shops like Aldi. Can you even buy a pasty from there?

Would you say that Keegan's second spell at Newcastle was more or less disastrous than your former manager Dalglish's second spell at Liverpool?

Julian: Begrudgingly I'd have to say more of a disaster purely down to the fact that Liverpool actually won a trophy (oh how wed give our right arms just to win the carling cup) . It was always going to end in tears when KK came back so I wish he hadn't. Another terrible decision by Mike Ashley to try and get the fans 'on side'

Ryan: Well I was gutted when Liverpool sacked Dalglish as the fun was just beginning. Although the whole Keegan 'saga' was the catalyst for us getting relegated in 2009, so I guess you'd have to say Keegan's spell was more disastrous. Although we had a few good wins under him and played some entertaining football. I'd rather have Keegan back a third time than Dalglish a second, that's for sure!

Were you pissing yourself laughing when we bought that old horse Kieron Dyer from the knackers yard of St James Park for a few million odd?

Julian: Yes. A player who never fulfilled his potential because he was too busy being a lad off the pitch. He will be most remembered at Newcastle for the punch up with Lee Bowyer (another waste of space you had off us) and making sir bobby robson turn the team bus round cos hed left his diamond earring in the dressing room. says it all really. I know players don't ask for injuries but I never know how he has the front to keep picking up his wages week after week season after season when he never plays. has cost every club hes been at fortunes in wages for very little return.

Ryan: I was laughing more after he broke his leg just after he signed. Then again that probably says more about me.

Have you ever felt the urge to punch a Police Horse?

Julian: Hmm, let me think. nah ive never wanted to stick one on a horse but I wouldn't mind lamping a gormless looking donkey with a scruffy mane. You may know him.

Seriously though the guy who did it has got a life ban and rightly so. the vast majority of those arrested after the recent derby hadn't even been at the match and had been watching in pubs. Just pissed up idiots looking for trouble and damaging the name of the club they claim to support.

Ryan: We'll see after you score your fourth...
.

And finally, your prediction for the game?

Julian: I think we will give a better performance than our last 2 games (it would be impossible to be any worse) and Coloccini will be back to offer a bit of leadership (before he departs for good 2 games later) but I still think the defence has no confidence and is getting worse. after drawing a blank in the last 2 games I think we will score but with Carroll and Molan looking to put one over on us either one or both of them are bound to get on the score sheet so ill go for West Ham 3 Newcastle 1.

Ryan: My biggest hope when going into a game like this near the end of the season is that the opposition take the foot off the gas with them not having much to play for. Sadly with you having Allardyce in charge and having a couple of our former players I can see you being right up for this game.

The most frustrating thing about Newcastle this season is watching our lump football. I been labelled as playing 'ugly' football under Allardyce but when teams like you do believe we play more long balls than any other team in the Premier League. Now you've obviously so there's an actual purpose. You play long balls that can lead to flick ons etc. You can also mix it up and have good players on the ball such as Cole and Jarvis who can add something different. Whereas Newcastle just hit needless lump balls up to Cisse that he can do nothing with. I can see this game being easy for you as we'll just hit long balls up field that are easy to defend while our defensive frailties are exposed....again!

3 or 4 nil home win.

Many thanks to both Julian and Ryan for taking the time to do this.

I was surprised to see that striker Brown wants to go to Newcastle, as Nigerians speak English not French!

Also, don't agree with SJ Chandos that Demel hasn't shown much promise this season, I think he's been excellent this year.

How can you confuse Aldi and Lidl?

People who frequent Lidl think Aldi's a designer label :D

Thumbs up to CH for another great roundup.
