Leyton Orient renew request for Olympic Stadium judicial review

Leyton Orient FC have renewed an application for a judicial review into the tenancy of the Olympic Stadium.

The Os had a written request for a review rejected by a court in April, but have repeated their request for a review of the London Legacy Development Corporation’s (LLDC) decision to deny the club a chance to become a co-tenant at the Stratford site.

West Ham secured a 99-year tenancy at the stadium in March and Os chairman Barry Hearn fears the move would threaten the existence of the League One club.

The judicial review would look into his claim that the LLDC had breached its rules by failing to fully explore the possibility of a groundshare between Orient and the Hammers.

The allegation has been denied by the LLDC.

West Ham will move to the site in August 2016, at a cost of between £150 million and £190 million to adapt the stadium for football.

According to reports, the government has agreed to contribute an extra £25 million to the conversion costs – bringing its total input to £60 million.

West Ham has also agreed to increase its own funding of the project by £5million to £15million.
The club will pay around £2m a year rent.

But Hearn told the Guardian previously that he was confident of winning the review if it is granted, and believes it could result in a fresh bidding process to share the ground with the Premier League club.

Mr Hearn said: “We fear for the worst.

“West Ham have been the beneficiaries of a fabulously inexpensive deal paid by the taxpayers and all we’re saying is Orient should benefit as well from the Olympic legacy of sport.

“West Ham are already giving away 100,000 tickets to watch a Premier League side in a huge venue and I don’t think it’s much of a fair fight.

West Ham monitoring Hooper if priced out of Carroll switch

Sam Allardyce has indicated that affordability will be the key factor in West Ham’s transfer dealings this summer, with the club having some money available to strengthen a squad that is on track to finish in the top half of the Premier League standings this season.

Although a left-back and another central defender would be welcome additions at Upton Park, it is in attack where reinforcements are most required.

Andy Carroll appears to still be the number one target and there are certainly reasons to believe West Ham could have finished even higher this season if the Liverpool loanee had not missed two months of action with injury.

The Hammers have won a higher percentage and lost a lower percentage of fixtures this season with Carroll available for selection.

But it remains a somewhat mysterious subject over whether a clause is already in place to make the loan switch permanent. If not, West Ham may not be prepared to blow what could be their entire budget on the striker, when the same money could acquire up to three new faces.

Instead, a viable alternative may prove to be Celtic’s Gary Hooper, who could be available for a third of the price of Carroll.

Norwich were constantly knocked back in their chase of Hooper in January, but the 24-year-old now only has one year remaining on his Celtic contract, which may mean the Scottish champions are more willing to negotiate with interested parties.

QPR are thought to be prepared to pay £6m, but their relegation from the Premier League would surely put them at a significant disadvantage.

The one question West Ham may have to ask themselves over Hooper is whether he would be a natural fit into their current formation of a lone striker.

His ability in the air and hold-up play are two of his weaker striking characteristics and it would seem that he would be better suited to playing as part of an attacking duo on the shoulder of the last man.

The Dutch defender, 27, who will be a free agent in June, did not think his contract would be renewed.

But he said: “I’ve played 21 games this season. I have a feeling I did my job well and we will see what happens.”

JAMES BEATTIE admits he had not considered becoming a boss until he got the call.

The new Accrington chief, 35, said: “The first time I thought about it was when the chairman rang. I can’t wait to get started.”

PAOLO DI CANIO is lining up a summer move for Burnley hotshot Charlie Austin.

The Sunderland boss badly needs to add firepower to his squad and 23-year-old Austin (right) would be a snip at £4million.

LEEDS boss Brian McDermott is planning to swoop for Southampton’s Billy Sharp.

The Saints striker, 27 — who scored 10 Championship goals on loan at Nottingham Forest this season — also interests Reading.

BH really is a massive tool! I've said this all along. Does he really have such a low opinion of Orient fans? Does he really think that Orient fans would choose to watch us rather than their own team?

And I'm assuming the 100,000 tickets given away aren't all for the same game as there'll be a lot of people hanging around outside!!!

I think it's time hearn dropped this as he's beginning to look an idiot. Fair enough you have to stand your corner to show you're trying to do the best for your club but there comes a point where you have to admit defeat. And if i'm honest, the same goes with those west ham fans opposed to the stadium move. It's happening, live with it.
Not interested in Hooper but this Lamine Sane sounds very bowie-esque

Tell that to Sheffield Utd. They got exactly what they wanted (shedloads of cash) by simply refusing to accept any judgements passed against them. Hearn is playing a similar game.
