Re: monday's news 8th july includes west ham
Edin Dzeko: Madrid-bound?
The Mill has spent the past fortnight in a blissful state of unawareness at Wimbledon, resolutely refusing to pay the slightest bit of attention to football, but it assumed that once it returned to this world of half-truths, bare-faced lies and Sepp Blatter, Arsenal might finally have done a signing. So imagine the Mill's fury upon learning that Arsenal haven't done a signing, that they've returned to type and are haggling over a fee with Real Madrid for Gonzalo Higuaín and that last week Liverpool rejected their £30m bid for Luis Suárez, a figure the men in the Gunnersaurus suits knew full well wouldn't be good enough.
One man/goblin who is on his way out of Anfield is Jay Spearing, heading to Blackburn for £1.5m, but it looks like Brendan Rodgers is going to be frustrated in his attempts to sign Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon, with Chelsea preparing to blow Liverpool's bid out of the water, just for the sheer hell of it. Liverpool will console themselves by chucking £4m in Valencia's direction for Aly Cissokho. Is this their year? No, because at some point some bunch of goons are going to make an acceptable bid for Suárez WHO SAID HE WANTED TO LEAVE LIVERPOOL TWO MONTHS AGO.
Robert Lewandowski hasn't even gone to Bayern Munich yet. This is ridiculous.
And look, Darren Bent is still at Aston Villa. WHY? Why haven't Newcastle just gone and bloody signed him yet, like they said they would about six weeks ago? And why is Arouna Koné still at Wigan? Come on, Everton, pull your finger out, Wigan need the cash so they can send a forklift truck down to Norwich to pick up Grant Holt, who's theirs for a cool £4m, which will thus allow the Canaries to up their £6m bid for Lokomotiv Moscow's Dame N'Doye to the asking price of £10m. It's the circle of life.
Monaco: still trying to sign anything that moves. They want to lure André Villas-Boas away from Tottenham even though they've already got a manager, Claudio Ranieri, for whom this must all be very familiar. Meanwhile Tottenham are very slowly closing in on the signing of David Villa from Barcelona and fancy a £10m swoop for Real Madrid wonderkid Jesé Rodríguez.
Peter Odemwingie's still at West Brom. But maybe not for long. Crystal Palace are preparing a £2.5m bid, it says here, though it's not entirely clear what they're waiting for. Ian Holloway also wants Newcastle's Dan Gosling, while Atlético Madrid are eyeing Manchester City's Edin Dzeko and Swansea are on the verge of signing Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem for £12m.
Fulham want to see who can get sent off more out of Steve Sidwell and Lee Cattermole, who is apparently now an outcast at Sunderland. He's available for £2m and Hull, who are close to sealing a £4.5m deal for Burnley hotshot Charlie Austin, are also sniffing about. Expect this one to run and run.
Finally 2013 has a gold-plated transfer saga. The Lee Cattermole Saga.
