Alex Fernandez: He's DEFINITELY Spanish - we looked it up!
West Ham face Cardiff transfer battle over Alex Fernandez of Espanyol
West Ham and Cardiff have made enquiries about taking Espanyol's Alex Fernandez on loan in January.
Former Real Madrid starlet Fernandez, 21, would be available for the Hammers or Malky Mackay's Bluebirds to borrow, but his Barcelona-based club want a £500,000 fee to farm him out.
The stylish central midfielder has played for Spain at every youth level from Under-17s up, and was player of the tournament at the U19s European Championship in 2011.
Fernandez's older brother Nacho has recently broken into the Real Madrid first team, but having failed to do so himself, he left the Bernabeu club by mutual consent in August.
He'll come in Andy: Carroll's closing in on his West Ham return
West Ham's Andy Carroll training again after three months of injury misery
"I can see the light at the end of the tunnel" claims striker who hasn't played for Hammers since summer move from Liverpool
Andy Carroll has claimed he sees "the light at the end of the tunnel" after returning to training at West Ham.
The Hammers' England striker has spent three months undergoing treatment on a foot injury, and has yet to kick a ball in anger for them since a £15million summer move from Liverpool.
His goals and physical presence have been badly missed by a Hammers side sitting just a place above the drop zone.
Carroll will now follow an individual training regime to rebuild his overall fitness as he targets his long-awaited return to action ahead of next summer's World Cup.
"It has been a long, hard process but now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel," said the 24-year-old told whufc.com.
"It felt great to be out on the pitch jogging and kicking a ball in the open air - even if it was a bit cold.
"It's been really hard watching the games while I've been out. We haven't picked up the results we have deserved, so I can't wait to get out there again and start helping the team win some games."

Captain Kevin Nolan, James Collins, Stewart Downing, Matt Jarvis, James Tomkins, Razvan Rat, Jack Collison, Matt Taylor and Stephen Henderson all made the visit to the hospital and proceeded to hand out presents to the sick and underprivileged children.
The Hammers' stars took their goody bags to the Clover Children's Ward and Cedar Centre day unit before posing for pictures and signing autographs for everyone on the wards.
During the visit, the players took the time to help the children with various colouring in activities and also met several of the older patients in the hospital.

The big man is back! Hammers boost as £15m Carroll returns to training after seven months out
Andy Carroll returned to training at West Ham’s Chadwell Heath base on Wednesday to hand beleaguered boss Sam Allardyce a huge boost.
The £15million record signing has been given the all clear to continue his rehabilitation from an ankle injury in London after treatment from specialists in Holland and Belgium - and could begin ball work next week.
West Ham have seriously struggled without Carroll, who is training alone to start with as club physios look to ease him into action, and currently lie in 17th just three points above the relegation zone.
Carroll told his club’s official website: 'I am so happy to be back here at the training ground around all the lads.
'You don’t realise how much you miss all the banter and other stuff until you are away from it, so it’s great to be here again.
'I flew back a few times during my treatment to watch matches and catch up with my family, team-mates and friends, but now I’m back for good.
'It has been a long, hard process but now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It felt great to be out on the pitch jogging and kicking a ball in the open air, even if it was a bit cold!
'It’s been really hard watching the games while I’ve been out. We haven’t picked up the results we have deserved, so I can’t wait to get out there again and start helping the team to win some games.'
Allardyce has chosen to play without a centre-forward after understudy Modibo Maiga failed to impress and Carlton Cole required time to gain fitness.
Carroll has been commuting between the UK and the two rehab centres in Europe after aggravating an acute ankle injury at the start of September.
He was at Upton Park for the 3-0 win over Fulham but has yet to play for the club since he made his move permanent in the summer.
It is not yet known when the 24-year-old will return to the first-team and Allardyce said the process would not be rushed despite the desperate need.
‘It’s tentative in our approach to it,’ the West Ham manager said last week. ‘We can’t get over-anxious and push him too hard.
‘We need to get him fit to stay fit. Not fit to a point and then he may pick up another injury. That’s what we have to be careful about.’
Andy Carroll excited to get back on the pitch at West Ham
ANDY CARROLL is itching to return to help save West Ham’s season after returning to the club’s Chadwell Heath training ground for the first time in three months this week.
Carroll has not played for the Hammers this season and has spent time in Holland and Belgium recovering from a double fracture in his right foot.
He said: “I am so happy to be back here at the training ground around with all the lads. You don’t realise how much you miss all the banter and other stuff until you are away from it, so it’s great to be here again.
“It has been a long, hard process but now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It felt great to be out on the pitch jogging and kicking a ball in the open air, even if it was a bit cold.”
The pressure is on Andy Carroll
Andy CarrollWatching West Ham TV, yesterday and seeing Andy Carroll actually running and kicking a ball has done more for my flagging morale than anything I can think of during recent dismal months.
There was the huge Geordie lad being twisted, prodded, poked and grabbed…there were shades of WWF at times, as his physio mentor put him through his paces in front of the cameras. I thought this is all very well, but what about some PROPER physical exertion?
My prayers were answered as AC jogged, did some light sprints, and then kicked a ball into the goal (both feet) without so much as a grimace, wince or look of concern. So far so good!!
The level of expectation on this guys shoulders will be greater than anything he has ever experienced at previous clubs. Neither Newcastle United nor Liverpool had set Carroll up as their saviour. Sure the fee for his Anfield arrival was crazy, we all knew that, but there were others in that team (Luis Suarez, Dirk Kuyt, Steven Gerrard) who were capable goalscorers, and Andy Carroll was going to be just one more (expensive) name to go on the scoresheet for the Reds.
When Andy does step onto Upton Park for the first time, there will be two main things to occupy his mind; how will his repaired foot fare in the heat of Premier League battle, and is there any way he can re-pay all the trust and hope invested in him by a packed and expectant stadium, and by thousands around East London and the home counties.
I think it reasonable to state that for many, a fit and firing Andy Carroll may well mean the difference between a relegation scrap (we are in one by the way, lets not bury our heads in the sand) and a life of (relative) bliss, lazing casually and smugly in mid-table whilst other former strugglers try and fight there way out of the bear pit.
So how will it pass that West Ham United commence the slow and jittery climb from the cold, damp, un-welcoming basement to the sunlit, roof-top garden where the wealthy mingle and preen? A fit, potent and well-fed Andy Carroll is key, and by well fed, I don’t mean kebabs at 2.30 in the morning after a night on the razzle. The suppliers will need to be Messrs’ Stewart Downing and Matt Jarvis, two of the most generous providers of centre-forward ball in the Premier League. These two must have felt almost cheated the number of times they have delivered into an empty box, courtesy of Big Sam’s ‘no forwards today’ plan!
Wingers and big centre forwards are like…well egg & bacon, Morecambe & Wise…one just doesn’t flourish without the other (except Suarez, granted). We all know that AC will find the net with his head for the most part, so crosses by the barrow load are an absolute must.
In addition, players supporting in and around the box looking for knockdowns and scraps is a big part of the plan. The big fella will take the flack and make the space; it’s up to the others to reap the rewards.
If the boy stays fit, then there is no doubt he can play. Whether he can shoulder most of the responsibility for staving off a relegation fight is to be seen. All we can hope for is a steady supply. Andy C will do the rest…trust me (fingers are crossed and I’m touching wood…lots of it!!).
Does this fan have a point?
After Tuesday night’s loss to Crystal Palace, every single West Ham fan was left asking questions of Sam Allardyce’s ability to turn current form around and start delivering on his promise of another top-ten finish.
So far this season we have seen him make dodgy decisions with line-ups and substitutions, with the 3-0 victory over Spurs the only thing he can arguably be praised for.
Speculation over the length of time he has left in the Hammers hot-seat is mounting and thousands of fans are becoming sick and tired of the football being played under his watch.
So when ‘Terry’ called up talkSport to broadcastl his feelings on the way Allardyce and the players have performed recently, particularly at Selhurst Park on Tuesday, there will have no doubt been a whole host of fans agreeing with his every word. But has it got that bad at Upton Park that we must bring in Paolo Di Canio as manager in an attempt to get the players organised and discliplined again?
I, for one, wouldn’t be pleased if the club replaced Allardyce with Di Canio. He’s a legend at the club and, if he ends up doing the same at Upton Park as he did at Sunderland, that status will soon take a turn for the worse.
But Terry seems to believes Paolo is the only man in football who can really get West Ham back playing they way they should be and who can help is progress to the next level.
His call provides more of a comedy factor than anything but, if you look past that, his passion for the club speaks a thousand words.
But do you agree with him? Is it time for the club to bring in Paolo Di Canio? There’s a lot of truth in what Terry says regarding Allardyce and the current striker crisis, but Paolo? Really?
Chelsea will have to part with £80m to secure Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, 27, or offer Fernando Torres or Demba Ba in part-exchange.

So when do you think Andy Carroll start training again then?
Also I'd recommend the two girls put a jersey on, they'll catch a death out there.
Thank for the news CH, I read every morning!

There's a monkey on our back
An elephant in the room
And a little birdie told me
Our dog will have his day, soon.
So before the horse has bolted
Out of the stable door
Please let us win at Anfield
By the time I'm 64.
Cheers CH.
