West Ham plot ambitious move for La Liga ace
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce is keen to seal a January deal for Valencia striker Jonas, as he looks to improve his side’s attacking fortunes, according to reports from CalcioMercato.
The Hammers have endured a difficult opening few months of the season in front of goal, with star summer signing Andy Carroll’s absence having been a major factor in the Londoners’ slide towards the relegation zone.
Just 14 goals in 16 games has contributed heavily to the Upton Park side’s meagre 14 points tally, with Allardyce often electing to field a system devoid of a natural centre-forward.
Despite Carroll nearing full fitness, ‘Big Sam’ is believed to be keen to delve into the transfer market to boost his options in the final third, and has settled on Jonas as a genuine option.
The Brazilian forward has long been recognised as one of Valencia’s key men, but the Irons’ chief is confident that he can lure him to England next month.
With Los Che languishing in a midtable position, he may have a chance to do so, especially with the Spanish club also potentially open to selling thanks to their financial worries.
The 29-year-old also has hopes of making his nation’s squad for the 2014 World Cup, with a switch to the Premier League having the potential to give him a little more exposure over the course of the latter half of the campaign.

Jaanai Gordon-Hutton
West Ham back in for Posh striker
Exclusive
by Hugh Southon
A deal to bring Peterborough United’s 18-year-old striker Jaanai Gordon-Hutton to West Ham United is likely to be rekindled in January.
The youngster was left heartbroken when a deal fell through after what most saw as a superb trial period at the club earlier in the year.
The youngster scored at under 18, development squad and first team friendly level and is a striker very much in the Sam Allardyce mould.
However, after Peterborough and the Irons believed they had a deal in the bag, it was scrapped and a revised offer was made which the League One club rejected.
However, SportsDirect News has learned exclusively that further talks are planned after fresh contact was made and that a deal is expected to be sorted out in January.
The deal was originally put together at around £5 million which included many add ons but West Ham are understood to be planning to make a bigger upfront payment with the package reduced to around £3.5m.
A source revealed exclusively: "He's a great prospect and the Hammers would be doing good business."

ON THE UP: Allardyce will be hoping to improve his record
Can Big Sam spring a surprise? His record v the Reds
Sam Allardyce has come to Old Trafford with several teams in his managerial career - how has he fared against them?
As Sam Allardyce journeys with his unhappy Hammers up to Manchester, he must be wondering when things are going to turn around for his floundering team.
West Ham find themselves just one point above the drop zone and are showing few signs of having any idea of where the goal is.
He'd be forgiven for thinking that this weekend at Old Trafford is neither the time nor the place for an upturn in fortunes, given his previous track record against Manchester United.
His league stats against United make for poor reading.
Thirteen defeats out of 18 and only two wins in a period spanning 12 years is surprising given Allardyce's reputation of making his teams hard to beat.
Just like his managerial career in general, Big Sam's best period against United came when he was at Bolton, with both his wins arriving during his time at the Reebok.
The more famous of those two wins, both of which happened to be at Old Trafford, was perhaps the shock 2-1 victory in the Wanderers' first season back in the Premier League.
An equaliser from Kevin Nolan and a winner from England's one-cap wonder Michael Ricketts saw Bolton run out winners over a United team featuring the likes of Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole and Paul Scholes.
Allardyce drew a lot of praise from the win, with many noting how his tactics worked to a tee. Seemingly encouraged by this, Big Sam tried the same again the following season and it proved fruitful for a second time, Nolan again netting at the Theatre of Dreams in a 1-0 win.
Unfortunately for the now West Ham manager, that is where his success against the champions ends.
Several defeats that saw United scoring four followed, including a 4-0 defeat at the Reebok that featured a Wayne Rooney hat-trick.
As Blackburn boss, while he was able to save Rovers from relegation and steer them towards a mid-table finish his record against United failed to improve.
It was, in fact, a defeat at Old Trafford that proved to be one of the most embarrassing results of Allardyce's management career and one that played a major part in ending his tenure as manager of Blackburn.
When Rovers visited Old Trafford in November of 2010, his team played with an attitude that seemed to accept their fate before the first whistle had even blown. In the end, they fell to a humiliating 7-1 defeat, with Dimitar Berbatov particularly rampant, finding the net five times.
Big Sam now finds himself in the hot seat at Upton Park and in dire need of something to spark his side's season into life. Last season, the Hammers managed to take a point from a 2-2 draw at home to United, with a Robin van Persie equaliser taking the three points out of the hosts' grasp.
This season, Allardyce has been unable to pick a striker for the majority of games and with Kevin Nolan not finding the net as frequently as last season, goals have been difficult to come by.
Last week's 0-0 draw to Sunderland did little to ease relegation fears.
Big Sam will be hoping he can turn back the clock and take inspiration from his Bolton victories at Old Trafford, but with Kevin Nolan out through suspension, a new hero needs to step up to the plate. Unless he gives Michael Ricketts a call...

Olympic Stadium: Men fined for spying on West Ham
Karen Brady Karen Brady's mobile phone bills were accessed by a private investigator
Three men who pleaded guilty to spying on West Ham as the club bid to occupy the Olympic Stadium have been fined.
Richard Forrest, Lee Stewart and Howard Hill admitted illegally obtaining confidential information from the club and Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC).
Forrest, 31, of Crawley, ordered to pay £10,000, Stewart, 40, of Esher, has to give £13,250, while Hill, 59, of Stockport, was fined £100,000.
West Ham vice chairman Karen Brady was among 10 people targeted.
Apprentice star Ms Brady's mobile phone bills were accessed by a private investigator, prosecutor Mark Dennis QC told Southwark Crown Court.
He said the football executive was targeted after competing bidder Tottenham Hotspur commissioned accountancy firm PKF to examine the bidding process.
The court heard a man called Vodafone three times in February 2011 and claimed he had authority to access her mobile phone data.

Subsequently copies of her bills from December 2010 to February 2011 were sent to a bogus email beginning with westhamunited151, which were passed on to Hill.

Dionne Knight, OPLC Olympic project director, was also spied on.
Stewart had obtained the name, date of birth and school of Ms Knight's daughter and sent the information to Hill, the court heard.
In July 2011 the Sunday Times published an article saying Ms Knight was in a relationship with Ian Tompkins, Olympic project manager at West Ham, during the bid process.
The article was "suggesting that certain payments made by West Ham to Knight at OPLC may have been improper", the prosecutor told the court, which Mr Dennis added was "subsequently shown to have been wholly wrong".

West Ham United was declared as the preferred bidder for the stadium in February 2011 by the OPLC.
'Devious strategies'
Judge Alistair McCreath, Recorder of Westminster, said Hill "had full control over this project" and had "engaged others to do your dirty work for you" for financial gain.
Addressing the trio, he said: "By various devious strategies you accessed emails, phone records, bank records and in one case details of where the child of one of your victims went to school.
"The birth certificate of that child was obtained. Surveillance was carried out. Credit reports were obtained.
"It hardly needs stating that you had no right to any of this information."
The judge added: "What you did caused and continues to cause real harm to a significant number of people."
All three pleaded guilty to one charge of obtaining personal data contrary to Section 55 Data Protection Act 1998.
