It's understandable West Ham have pledged to keep the athletics track around the pitch should they be handed the Olympic Stadium - they want to persuade Benni McCarthy to run around it.
Spurs, also vying for the £500million stadium, plan to demolish it as soon as the 2012 Games are over. They aim to do this on the cheap by arranging a friendly with Scotland.
Spurs fans say a track keeps them too far from the action. Hammers fans asked for two running tracks. McCarthy asked for two running buffets.
Athletics aficionados, like Lord Coe & Co, are in the Hammers camp while that old so-and-so Pele said Spurs would be right to tear down the stadium - he has always had a problem with huge erections.

Mate; I was born in Stratford, E.15, 50 years ago this April.N1Andy wrote:Not to be too pedant, but I'm sure Stratford, Chingford et al were originally NE postcodes, and the E postcode is relatively recent? Though, despite what they may say, I don't think the NE postcode crossed the Leas into T*ttenham (so they were always N).
Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
We all know that the local support has all but disappeared. Many moved out I to Essex years ago and I used to Snear at my mates after games as they ran to their cars to miss the traffic while I had a short stroll down boundary rd. Unfortunately I didn't want my kids going the local school or walking about at night. So much to my disappointment I too joined the mass exodus out of newham. Perhaps in wanting west ham to stay is as much as me trying to hold on to my last tie to the area as it is against the athletics stadium. I gazed upon that stadium nearly every day for 35 years to see it turned into an asda that the queens Market residents defeated makes me feel mad
Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
That may be so, but you were born well after they got rid of the NE postcode and gave it to Newcastle - as I said, just being pedantic.Myron T Buttram wrote:Mate; I was born in Stratford, E.15, 50 years ago this April.
You not think it strange that London has SE, SW & NW, but no NE?

According to London Town.com the NE post code disappeared in 1866 so not really a new innovation!

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
The worry is now the decision is delayed, there is a vacuum in news stories. So, the tabloids, like the Mirror do stupid takes on the OS stadium with Benni Mac running around etc.
This takes away from the serious nature of our bid compared to Spurs. It is key that the Lord Coe legacy statement is kept to the forefront of the PR debate, because Spurs have no answer to that. We have, in keeping an athletics legacy in the heart of our bid.
Promises were made, and I hope the OPLC keep this in mind when they make their deliberations.

Do you not also think its strange that Victoria and Horseferry Road are in SW1, despite being North of the river!

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
Just discussed on The Wright Stuff by Les Dennis, Kirsty Gallacher and some Australian bloke. As a demonstration of the collective ignorance of most people on the subject it was enlightening.
One point though: are Spurs intending to relocate the Stratford Eurostar Terminal, the Javelin train and similar transport stuff to Crystal Palace should the country host a blue-riband athletics event such as the World Championships?
Whether they upgrade Crystal Palace or not, anything other than Stratford is definitely an inferior solution for the athletics community.
