Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
This was part of a larger survey about the Olympics.
An overwhelming majority of Londoners are opposed to Tottenham demolishing the Olympic Stadium and building a new ground without the running track, according to a new poll.
The phone survey carried out for the BBC by ComRes shows 81 per cent of people are against Tottenham's proposals with only 14 per cent in favour.
Tottenham and West Ham are bidding against each other to take over the stadium once the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics have finished.
The Hammers' plan would see the running track retained inside the existing structure of the stadium, but Spurs insist such an option is not viable. According to the poll, 72 per cent of Londoners support West Ham's bid and 13 per cent support Tottenham's

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
More from the Beeb poll:
* The stadium should be used for athletics after 2012: 70% agree, 26% disagree
* After the Olympics there is no need for an athletics stadium: 16% agree, 77% disagree
* Which bid should win? West Ham 72%, Tottenham 13%, neither 12%
* It would damage the legacy if the stadium cannot hold athletics after 2012: 63% agree, 31% disagree
* The stadium should be dismantled and rebuilt as a football stadium after 2012: 14% agree, 81% disagree
* Athletics is not popular enough to justify keeping a purpose-built athletics stadium: 25% agree, 68% disagree
* Stadiums should not be used for both athletics and football, as an athletics track would make football less enjoyable: 28% agree, 59% disagree

The Olympic Stadium- An Apology
during the ongoing stadium debate i have been a vociforous campaigner for the anti brigade. Having just spent the last 3 hours trying to console a heartbroken 12 old driving back from the game has made me realise i'm happy for the move to go ahead if it means we can start to compete and maybe set our sights a little higher. someone please tell me they feel the same as me, mayby im being a sell out i don't know all i know is my sons up in his room balling his eyes out showing some passion unlike you mr upson you ****
Re: The Olympic Stadium- An Apology
maybe get off the internet and tell your son that west ham don't always win and get used to it. Buy him a bovril. let him kick the cat.
every man jack of us has come to terms with this. help him do the same instead of pissing and moaning at those that have already been there. And Mr Upson.

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
So where is the picture? Or is this the type of announcement the press weren't invited to?
Worried before, petrified now. The best they can come up with (and not show anyone) is a picture of how the ****ing ROOF is going to look?

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
Nobody seriously expects to see detailed plans before the winner announced do they?
G&S are many things, but they aint stupid. They are not going to show us a picture with an athletics track and huge swathes of open space between pitch and stand until they have deal signed, and they can ignore the inevitable backlash.
Oh, what's that fans? Don't like the look of it now? Sorry boys, we've signed on the dotted line now...

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
Actually they put the picture up now, not very big... doesn;t look very promising - that must be the biggest pitch in the world.
Here it is:
They do know the stadium is round don't they? Here is another artists impression which to my mind is a lot more realistic:
Still the roof looks nice eh? Not entirely sure where the floodlights are on the new version, maybe we can't afford them

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
Imagined a bigger roof than that...still got pods, they've coloured the non-existing wrap claret and blue, given us the least wide track in the world and biggest pitch....
Hmm. What a lazy "computer generated image".

The only way the Daves will make any money is if they significantly improve this football club, on and off the pitch. I hope they double/treble/quadruple their money because it will mean we have gone from a financial basket case ekeing out an existence in the Premierships basement to a strong, financially stable football club playing at a higher level.
Sullivan and Gold making lots of money out of us = a good thing.

Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
"Karren Brady said: "This image gives a true sense of how the Olympic Stadium would look post-conversion - a truly multi-purpose, multi-event stadium that would stand as a true home for sport in this country. On 6 July 2005, a promise was made in the Queen's name. We believe in that promise and we believe in legacy.
"It's important for the UK's credibility as a sporting nation - especially in the wake of the 2018 FIFA World Cup disappointment - to keep that promise. Pulling down the stadium would waste half-a-billion pounds in taxpayers' money.""
The more I hear from Brady, the less I trust her. I know it is all PR, but look at her using the Queen to demonstrate how sincere West Ham's bid is. These words have now been said or written. How do West Ham stand now to significantly alter this stadium at any stage in the future?
They are clearly committing to a lifetime of playing inside a running track. They are using a very poor computer image to basically fool people into thinking that is what the stadium will look like in football mode. They have even changed the basic shape of the stadium in doing so.
I believe the three of them are con artists. I feel that Sullivan especially believes there is a sucker born every minute.
They just want the stadium regardless of what the supporters want. Why is this? They have to have an ulterior motive. It cannot be in the best interest of the supporters otherwise they would have run a different PR campaign.
The pro arguments on the previous thread were lagely based on the belief that the board had a future plan to make it a football freindly stadium. Posters like Romford were quite vocal in the trust of the Daves to have a plan up their sleeve for the future. My reading of this was that many didn't want the track, but at the same time trusted the plan to somehow do away with it some time in the future.
Surely, each and every time Brady makes statements like those above, the idea of making any football friendly structural changes diminish untold. Using false images is deceit in my view. It shows the type of people we have running our club.
There is something very wrong happening here. This is much bigger than the team's current fight against relegation. The future of this club is not in trustworthy hands. Why would they want this move so much they are the only ones who think it good for football?
Pure speculation, perhaps the Boleyn Ground will be sold at a knockdown value to an investment company privately owned by the porn barons? Perhaps they believe the club housed in the Olympic Stadium will sell for a lot more than the one they currently have.
[p.s I have nothing to back this up by the way- it's just a doubting thought and pure speculation as I say. I apologise to the Mods if I am not allowed to post this type of post, but personally, I do not believe they have the best interests of this club at heart].

Harsh. By the timing of his posts and the wording, he's surely put his exhausted lad to bed.
He desperately wants to see his son grow up watching a West Ham team that won't kick him in the nuts every time.Character building or not, what's wrong with that?
If that has to be at the O/S, then so be it.
I don't blame the man.
Francois... I was thinking the exact same thing last night on the way up there, let alone the way back and I'm very much with you.

The problem I have with that image is that a lot of people are going to look at it and think it doesn't look bad. They won't see a stadium that has been digitally changed from a Maracana bowl into an old Wembley shape.
The irony of it is, it has been changed digitally, it won't be actually. If it was changed to the shape shown, then it would mean doing away with the legacy - the very thing she is talking about keeping!

Tell him you'll take him to Alton Towers, that'll soon put a smile on his face.
Re: The Olympic Stadium [new poll]
Old Mile End I don't think there is anything wrong with your post I don't 100% agree with it as I don't see there will be any short term gain out of the move. But along with you and others I am getting a bit frustrated at a lack of any details behind thier plans apart from the odd soundbite. I assume this is down to what was said before Christmas about not spending any real money on plans untill they get preferred bidder status, which I suppose is understandable architect and engineers fees would be substantial on a project like this, but it wouldnt cost that much to have a few artist impressions done of the interior even if it was subject to change.
