Re: Change of Crest?
Between 1895 and 1903 there was no Castle. The reason for starting the thread was guage whether people see the Castle as representative of West Ham or a reference to our location in the Green Street.

Re: Change of Crest?
They've been at the current location since 1904 (I think ?). It's a part of the club's DNA.Trap1 wrote:No.
Isn't the castle a representation of our current location rather than the club's origins?

Re: Change of Crest?
No. Let's have the crossed hammers over the Olympic rings and call ourselves West Ham Olympic.... oh sorry, that's somebody elses bright idea isnt it?
Re: Change of Crest?
No. It's a part of our history that will be lost by the move so should be remembered in the crest.

Are you asking for people's opinions or are you advocating for a no castle crest?Trap1 wrote:Our castle looks nothing like the real one!!

Re: Change of Crest?
Pete,
My personal opinion is that we should remove it. My view is that the castle represents the area in which the current ground is situated and not the club itself.
In short, I'm saying we should revert back to the old crest.

Re: Change of Crest?
I think it would be nice to just have the hammers as a one season thing, but as a permanent change definitely no...

Re: Change of Crest?
Well, the Ironworks are long gone, so drop the Hammers, the Castle, and soon the Boleyn will be consigned to history, so they should go too. It is time to move onwards and upwards, forget the past, and to reflect this bright future with a club crest that reflects our future locale.
Something like this should do:

Re: Change of Crest?
I'm gonna get slated for this but...
Yes. If we no longer play at the Boleyn why keep it? It will begin another chapter in our colourful history. Where is CH when you need him? When were badges first worn regularly on jerseys and what were they? There is plenty of photographic evidence to suggest that badges weren't worn regularly in the late 50's early 60's even the 70-71 squad is pictured without badges. To claim that the Castle was in use from 1904 is spurious as it certainly didn't seem to be as synonymous with west Ham as people suggest. Any old 'uns or historians on here can shed any light as to why badges were not consistently worn?
If you don't believe me do a quick Google search under various years or check out the photo galleries on Spartacus ( http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/WestHam.htm).
