That appears to have been the first consistent club badge so why not? I hope they don't go for hammers over olympic ringsTrap1 wrote:

Re: Change of Crest?
Personally i'd like to see just the crossed hammers on our shirts, but i think the club badge should stay the same (does that even make sense?) 父

Re: Change of Crest?
I for one did not claim that the castle was in use on the badge since 1904. And you're right there were long stretches where no badge was worn at all, and other stretches when we wore just the crossed hammers. The question was 'do you believe we should drop the castle' and I said no because the current location is a very important part, if not one of the most important parts of the club's history, and ought to be honored as such. I would vote to keep the castle.yonni wrote:I'm gonna get slated for this but...
Yes. If we no longer play at the Boleyn why keep it? It will begin another chapter in our colourful history. Where is CH when you need him? When were badges first worn regularly on jerseys and what were they? There is plenty of photographic evidence to suggest that badges weren't worn regularly in the late 50's early 60's even the 70-71 squad is pictured without badges. To claim that the Castle was in use from 1904 is spurious as it certainly didn't seem to be as synonymous with west Ham as people suggest. Any old 'uns or historians on here can shed any light as to why badges were not consistently worn?
If you don't believe me do a quick Google search under various years or check out the photo galleries on Spartacus ( http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/WestHam.htm).

They can't use the Olympic rings image anyway.yonni wrote:

Castle = Fortress = What we will make any new stadium we take as home.
End of silly thread.

Re: Change of Crest?
No.
Not for any sentimental reason, pure business. The crest is our trademark, our brand signature. As a whole, we are truly awful at marketing. We deliberately stifle the impact of our greatest marketing tool, our replica kit, for short-sighted retail revenues. Chopping & changing the club crest would once again negatively hit our ability to establish ourselves commercially outside these shores.
If we truly expect people from Frankfurt and the like to jump on the train and come to our games, we should be doing everything in our power to get West Ham noticed over there. Undoing any presence we have out in Europe by changing our crest because of some historical technicality is self-indulgent lunacy.

Re: Change of Crest?
Out of curiosity, would you also be of the opinion that the club should change it's name from West Ham?Trap1 wrote:Pete,
My personal opinion is that we should remove it. My view is that the castle represents the area in which the current ground is situated and not the club itself.
In short, I'm saying we should revert back to the old crest.

Trap mate -- according to this, G&S are way ahead of you -- a suggestion for the new crest can be seen hereTrap1 wrote:With the move to the Olympic stadium underway, do you believe we should drop the castle and just keep the hammers?

Re: Change of Crest?
Gidea,
I've explained why!! The Castle was added because of our location, I don't think we should incorporate it from 2014, nor should we have any reference to the Olympics.
Hammers only for me.
Pete,
Are you Barry Hearn??!!!
No need for a name change just a tweak of the logo just like we did in 1903.

Re: Change of Crest?
But are we not called West Ham because of our location? Surely we should have changed our name to Upton Park years ago according to your logic. What exactly do you think the hammers represent anyway?Trap1 wrote:Gidea,
