Excellent.... We could do with another marker at the point where Aldworth Road joins West Ham Lane to indicate the first home ground of Castle Swifts - That's the very beginning of our heritage, it can't be traced back any further than that.

Isn't today the day we're supposed to find out if Boris et al are going to rubber stamp the OPLC's decison?

Think I read that today is the earliest day it could be as Parliament has not been in session the past week. If the press are correct then we should expect to hear by Friday at the latest.

This mentions Browning Road? Should that be on your list of places?

Yes, Browning Road was a temporary measure after TIWFC were evicted from Hermit Road (which was inherited from the Old Castle Swifts) for fencing the place in and setting about building a stand without the landlords permission, it was an unplanned stopgap due to eviction while waiting for the Memorial Ground to be completed.

The Ironworkers wern't slow in setting about building works, and they even put up floodlights and played night games which was almost unheard of in the 1890s, If I remember rightly they played floodlit games against WBA and Arsenal as well as against lesser teams where the game needed to be stopped from time to time to soak the ball in whitewash, I suppose there was no such thing as white balls in those days.

Thames Ironworks FC were absolutely remarkable, from nothing and playing only friendlies and cup games in their first season to Southern League football in just five years, winning the London League and Southern League Div 2 in that time.
