Can't we sue Spurs for fraud seeing as they hired the guy? Obviously he has to be proven guilty, but if he is then I hope we take Spurs to the cleaners...

Huge "grey area" here Mike, we would have to prove that the Spuds requested this type of investigation, but I suspect accountants PKF will not be so easy to wriggle off the hook as he was employed by them. This adds ammunition to the claim against PKF who claimed in November last year at Brady's court case

"PKF claimed not to know where the documents had come from and said that its partner Howard Hill had claimed the telephone records arrived "in the proverbial brown envelope".

Oh dear!!

Levy may have his arse covered legally, yes. But he certainly no longer holds ANY morale high ground with regard to what happens to the OS. Whatever happens now with us renting the OS, numbers involved and so on, I reckon Spurs have lost any integrity and goodwill with their dealings in this whole sorry affair.

They may not be able legally to trace this back to Levy and Spurs, they may escape punishment due to lack of evidence, but Levy for sure will have other things on his mind now than throwings spanners in the works for West Ham and the LLDC...

Orient may try to do that, but I feel Hearn has finally realised he is fighting a lost cause...

What a wonderful week.

Just as we edge above them sportingly. They nosedive big time morally.

Why is it I get the feeling that if it was us who had been spying, this would be a MUCH bigger deal?

So Spurs employ these people to carry out unspecified investigations at the culmination of their ultimately failed bid for the stadium in 2011. These people are subsequently charged with conspiracy to commit fraud by misrepresentation under the 2006 Fraud Act. There may be no legal links here but the perception is everything - Spurs' hands are dirty.

You know there was an FA Tribunal case a few years ago in which it was established that clubs owed a duty of care towards eachother as well as to the FA/Premier League. That and some frankly fraudulent testimony from some journalists with a financial interest in the outcome of the case meant that some poor club had to shell out £25m to cover up the shortcomings of another.

It could be argued that, in failing to exercise sufficient control over those they paid to dig up the dirt, Tottenham have breached that duty and ought to be made to pay compensation as a result of all the delays their actions have caused.

Now if only I could remember who was involved in that other case

Private investigators accused of posing as West Ham executives to spy on documents for Spurs

3:11pm Tuesday 2nd April 2013 in News

Three private investigators have denied posing as senior West Ham United executives to spy on private documents for Tottenham Hotspur.

Richard Michael Forrest, 30, Lee Stewart, 39, and Howard Hill, 58, are accused of fraud by false representation while the two Premier League clubs were battling for control of the Olympic Stadium.

Hill, a senior investigator at accountancy firm PFK, was hired by Spurs to spy on West Ham executives in 2011, it is alleged.

He is accused of enlisting Forrest and Stewart to obtain confidential information through fraudulent means.

All three men appeared in the dock at Southwark Crown Court this morning to deny committing fraud by false representation between January 1 and August 30 2011.

They spoke only to confirm their names and enter not guilty pleas during the 30-minute hearing.

Judge Anthony Leonard QC sent the case for trial which will not take place until next year.

The trio are accused of pretending to be West Ham executives as the two clubs fought a protracted battle for control of the Stratford stadium following last summer’s games.

Spurs have since pulled out of the bid and West Ham look set to take residence at the stadium.

The men were freed on unconditional bail until the start of a trial, due to last between six and eight weeks, beginning on January 14 2014.

Hill, of Shrigley Road, Poynton, Stockport, Cheshire, pleaded not guilty to two counts of fraud by false representation.

Stewart, of More Lane, Esher, Surrey, and Forrest, of The Dingle, Crawley, West Sussex, both denied one count each of fraud by false representation.

Huh. So not just eavesdropping and bin-dipping, but outright fraud.

What sort of punishment do people think the "spies" will be facing, as I play 5a-side sometimes with the son of Mr Hill and he's a top bloke.

I can't help but think, this sort of stuff goes onall the time but he's just been unlucky in the level of media attenion this has brought due to obvious reasons.

Oh, I'd say death by stoning would be an adequate sentence in this case.
