They wernt impressed, uncomfortable benches, and they just didn't like it.
I like it in there, but it don't beat broadway market in Hackney or Roy's in Hornchurch.
I got told years ago that the benches in pie mash shops were deliberately uncomfortable so you did stay long, eat the food and get going basically

Like Manze's but there is/was a good pie and mash shop in Poplar Krisp Street was the best.
Didn't like Kelly's in Bethnal. Never been Duncan's but the queue is down the street on matchdays!
Went to Cockney's in Croydon wasn't bad either.
Only thing I don't like is it feels like you're eating in a cheap bathroom! Horrible tiled walls!
