Re: Tennis
Getting the number 1 spot and going to the O2 to celebrate that we’re his goal from the French open onwards and I think he missed at most 1 week competing between then and November / December , it was a Herculean effort but took its toll as you rightly sayVic_Watson wrote:Played his b@llocks off to be world No.1 at end of 2017 and was never the same again. Hopefully he'll last until Wimbledon and get the send-off he deserves,
Good post CRS

He just kept rolling. On and on. He played every tournament he could.
It definitely killed him.
But on the other hand he will retire having been World No1 at the years end. I'm really glad he did that in the end. The majors are everything but the No.1 was something I wanted for him having not really worried about it before. (both him and me)

Re: Tennis
Come on Andy!!
Two sets down and a break down. He just broke back and then served to love to take the lead in 3rd set. What a fighter he is, Aussie crowd are really on his side, cheering him on all the way.
Still got a mountain to climb but he won't go down without a fight.

Re: Tennis
Bollox. Andy drops serve again in 5th set, he now looks absolutely dead on his feet but what a fighter Andy is.
It's almost all over, he's standing to serve at 1-5 in the fifth and is getting a standing ovation from the crowd already.

Re: Tennis
How bizarre was that tribute video? He looked most bemused before saying that he might have another operation and be back!
Great performance though against an in-form player. Great win by Katie Boulter overnight as well. Stayed up late for that one. Her next match against Sablenka should be a corker.

I still wouldn't put it past him to have another operation and come back and win Wimbledon. Grass, short points, his favourite surface.
He's that sort of person.
I can dream.... :raver:

Re: Tennis
Doubles player Bob Bryan had the same operation (hip resurfacing) in August and is making his comeback now. And he is a lot older than Andy. OK, doubles is less work but still it shows that the end might not yet be nigh.

Re: Tennis
That tribute video, as much as it's great to hear your peers praising you to the hilt, it had the whiff of someone reading their obituary before they had actually died.
Having watched the whole match this morning, I would be amazed if that's the last we see of Andy. He conjured up such a brave fightback he may even have surprised himself. Twas a herculean effort to get back from 2 sets down and square the match but unfortunately it drained every last ounce out of Andy and he had nothing left to give in the fifth set. To still have that spirit and defiance in his locker though, despite the ravages of his broken body, suggests we may yet see that last hurrah at SW19.

Re: Tennis
what an incredible match from Andy - full of guts and fight!!
i read that he said he is in pain just putting his socks on in the morning, so heavens knows what kind of pain that match put him in.
like he said, IF that is his last match then what a way to go out.
Even if he had won and made it through I do wonder how much he would have had left in the tank for his next match.....

That would have been against an Aussie too (Millman) so wouldn't have had the crowd with him like he did last night/this morning.kenthammer1984 wrote: Even if he had won and made it through I do wonder how much he would have had left in the tank for his next match.....

Fairytale comeback at Queens with Lopez and he has entered Nottingham doubles and Wimbledon doubles with different partners. It's going to be tough as there are many young guns coming through at the moment but if Andy carries on the way he has started his comeback who knows where it could go, maybe even winning Wimbledon singles title next year? What a story that would be.

Re: Tennis
Only one Brit has played so far and Heather Watson is through in straight sets. Edmund third one centre court. The others all appear to be playing tomorrow.
