I'd let him go. Yes, he's a very good player, but with our tiny squad, especially in terms of strikers, we can't afford to have one you can rely on to be on the treatment table six months of every season. Especially with Dyer and Gabbidon on our books as well. A fully fit Dyer is worth more than £6m and he would have been very helpful to Newcastle had he stayed and played regularly (which was no less likely than Ashton doing the same for us now), but it turned out to be good business for them to flog him to us.

Course, all this is entirely dependant on the transfer fee being given to Zola.

How has this reached 5 pages?!

If we sell him I would be disgusted, as even if he plays 15 games a season, he is worth it.

weve got nothing else to discuss so itll reach 10 pages before u know it and no hes not worth it if he only plays 15 games.

Its all part of the project

Haven't heard anything on this one, but personally Ashton has shown enough that we should keep him. The other thing is that a transfer would only be done with Ashton passing a medical. If he is able to that for someone else then why let him go.

If he does though, I look forward to the player brought in to improve the team (Gets out serie B player list).

Oh here we go again!

I'd have no qualms about this move - as long as it was Zola who wants it to happen to engineer his own moves and not the Club once again trying to 'balance the books' - books we are told no longer need balancing

If I was manager, this would be Ashton's final chance. Absolute min 25 games and min 10 goals or be shot of. The people at the club who watch him daily will be able to judge the likelyhood of this happening or not and whether any money being offered by Stoke or any other club is too good to turn down.

In Zola we trust.

(as long as it's not Tristan  )

Ashton to Stoke?

I reckon he'll play at the Brittania at least once next season (yes, I know, assuming he's fit).

In other words, he looks forward to

1 - Being unveiled as their new record signing
2 - Scoring a brace in his first match
3 - Disappearing off the radar until this time next year.

I am as exasberated as the next person with Ashton's injuries but I think that (when he is fit) Ashton is our best player.

Exactly... but he's NEVER BLOODY FIT!!!! Is he? Headbanger

Let's stop kidding ourselves that he's ever going to play more than 12 games a season. Trust in Carlton Cole and whatever mope they dig up on loan from Italy and prey for the academy to come up with something in the next three years.

Either that, or Michael Owen...... and we don't want Micheal Owen....

If it's a straight choice between Ashton and Owen, there's not really anything in it.

Not really much else to say. Both likely to play ten games a season max. Both likely to score four or five goals in those ten games. I suppose Ashton's younger, but Owen's proved himself more. Probably balances out. Both pretty useless to have in your squad.

If it was me... final chance time. Give him til January to prove his fitness. If he plays less than 50% of our matches (or is available for 50% of our matches - got a feeling he won't be an automatic pick if fit) then flog him to the highest bidder. As everyone knows January prices are inflated so could got a bit of extra womga for him then.
