Now I know i'll be slated for bumping this thread, but I have a serious question. In my eyes, Grant this season and how bad the results have been shows that Zola may have been doing an alright job. I don't blame Grant, I blame the players for some shocking results and laclustre performances. I think Zola actually got a little more from the players and his job at the club of keeping us up was some achievment (I know on a very low points total). If he had been given this year as promised by Gold, we may have stood a better chance of survival, because with these players thats the best we can hope for.

I saw as much as I needed in the two and a bit seasons Zola was here to know that he wasn't a good manager. No worse than Avram Grant though.

We need a proper inspirational or blood n guts type manager to get anything out of the dross that is our squad and neither of these two are/were it.

I thought about this recently, wondering whether, if we'd not sacked him at the end of last season, he'd still be at the club now (the same results having arisen.

Two conclusions to such thoughts:

1. He's probably a touch better than Grant, and
2. If he'd replicated Grant's results, he'd have been fired after Anfield.

Bet he's having a little chuckle now at the Daves...

Zola wasn't very good and needed to go.

Though somehow they managed to get someone worse.

Why?

With Zola the team started the descent. Grant hasn't been able to turn the results around, but has us on our best run in the little Cup for ages. Zola was given the time.

Zola had 2 and a half seasons, Grant just had a half.
Manager is judged based on a long period of time, sacking managers without a season or two under their belt is just wrong and doesn't help the club.

I don't recall a half a season in 19-20th place under Fonzie.

Fair play to Grant for the cup run, but, in the league, his record is inferior.

Not much to add to that, really.

Zola was a very lacklustre manager and anyone who argues otherwise are just re-writing history. Zola needed to be sacked.

I think Zola had to be sacked. But at the same time I think he has the keys to beacome a very good manager. He inspired and developed some of the players. He had no clue how to organize the team on the pitch though and keep playing Spector at LB was an awful and strange decison. Among others. Still he will develop a lot. He also had a squad with players moe sidelined than ever. I mean he had to play Nouble as our only option (still he let him grow) up front.
I appreciate a lot what he did and if G&S had acted with some more respect they may have been able to turn him into our head coach with a different manager (not Grant) which had been great.
Well, that was then, but it was not only Zola who did mistakes then....

Strange how we're supposed to give an experienced manager (who shouldn't need it) time, yet were not prepared to give an inexperienced manager time (when he did)

We've only been through this abotu 6 times though haven't we ??

Where we said the level of the League is much better this Year in our " part " of the League & we don't Burnley, Hull etc to make us look like we're better than we actually are ??

Well i have anyway, maybe you & others have it every time..

That fabulous Spine of ours is still the same i see, Parker, Cole, Green & Upson, no matter who is in charge..

3 Years or more now..

If we do get a new Manager, or even Grant in January if he's still our Manager, i hope he has the balls & vision to see what our real problems are, & i include Roy of the Rovers in it as he simply can't be doing our " TEAM " any favours at all where morale is concerned with this tag that he seems to have around him.

Avram Grant is not our main problem as a Football Club, no where near it..

Bobby O you are spot on,back up the coach and ship these donkeys out,,first 2 stops Daggers & Brentford
for half of them,Heathrow for the rest,GFZ had a chance to change the squad,he did not bother,AG has had
hardly anything to spend, and i dont think he will get the chance either, but when we sink to the depths of blaming
the trainer, and one or 2 others, this lot have run out of excuses,Swing that axe

Except that we did give him time, and he made the team progressively worse over almost two seasons.

From third(?) when his the previous incumbent left, to 17th.

The decline was there to see for all. He got rid of the prem players and replaced them with fancy dans who couldn't hack the league.

Grant (or whoever) needs a bit of time to repair the damage done, and it's got (marginally) worse, before it (hopefully) gets better.

We saw the damage done to the club by Duxbury (and most on here agreed with his decision) making his mind up about Zola and Clarke after four months. It cost us millions, and most thought it was a good idea to give those two megabucks deals.

Now they are oh so keen to make a hasty decision again.

Why shouldn't an experienced manager take (or be given) time to sort the problems at the club? Unless you think the damage done by the last lot cam be turned round in one transfer window?
