Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
Hines, Collison and Hitz all to come back in the new year. That's good enough for me
We are an improving team and these 3 will certainly improve us even more. We'll be around 12th in the league come March imo. The only way is up

Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
I agree they will help. but its our defence that needs sorting out.ie a goalkeeper whos steadier on high balls and a commanding centre half.
Also a midfield that doesnt get pushed back too deep onto the defence when we are defending a lead

Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
We need a left back...desperately (how many years have we been saying this?)
We could well be tempted by an experienced, proven, ball winning centre half.
The surprise could be a new goalkeeper.
Weren't we linked with Boruc?

Metro have, in the past week or so, mentioned that we are looking at Stephen Ireland and also Steve Sidwell.

Bubbles, that is the point of this thread. You talk utter b*llocks for 2 months and then we don't buy anyone.
Just go with it

Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
A big centre half who will come and head anything. David Wheater at Middlesbrough would fit that bill, no frills in an area where no frills are required.
Left back is a difficult position to fill but we need to learn the lesson of Jacobsen (****ed off by many on here before he'd even kicked a ball) and get someone solid, unspectacular and who knows the position and its intricacies inside out. Ilunga is a good athelte but struggles with the positional side of the game IMO.
Also, wildcard striker - John Carew?

See, I think there is life in him... I would certainly give him until the end of the season in Jan.Denbighammer wrote: Also, wildcard striker - John Carew?

Ok I'll bite...
a LB and replacement for Upson assuming that the owners do want to get a small fee for him. Would be a suicide sale if we are still in the bottom 3 but he is going to go in the summer. January wouldn't be the ideal time to get a decent replacement in as there won't be much on the market but if the owners let any prospects see the "project" they won't be able to say no, shirley?

Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
the only team upson could go to wouldn't be much bigger than west ham, but he'll probably get paid much more.
I doubt he will go in january anyway, the few millions you'll make (2-3?) wouldn't be worth destabilizing our defense (assuming that someone would spend those money...).
boruc won't go anywhere now that frey is injured.
I'd like a left footed jacobsen, then I think we're ok.

boruc is currently first choice at fiorentina after frey suffered damaged ligaments.bubbles1966 wrote: Weren't we linked with Boruc?
left backs are a serious problem for nearly every club in europe. there just a few really good around and totally overpriced!
cash strapped benfica needs to get rid of coentrao but you know...
Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
i was told that by a rather good hp over the summer... but for whatever reason it was a non starter after the initial inquirychigwells finest wrote:wayne bridge on loan might be a possibility................city want rid and might pay half his wages.......i know he's lost his edge but surely better than illunga

£10m to spend in January.....
Reports this morning are saying that Grant will be given £10m to spend on transfers in January if we are involved in a relegation battle.
Looks like we will be so how would you spend that £10m?
We all know we need a left back, possibly another striker or actually 8 new players. Who would you go for specifically? would you sell anyone?

Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
Weren't we linked with Matt Taylor at Bolton in the summer, think that's the type of player we need, solid, reliable able to play 30+ games a season. Should be able to shore up the left side.

Re: January 2011 Transfer rumour thread
If the 'dippers are still after Cole and offer us real money for him then it's time to grab it with both hands.
For whatever reasons he just isn't doing it for us. It may be he's carrying an injury, it may be his head's not right, but we're in deep mire and we can't afford to wait for him to start performing.
John Carew has had a falling out with Houllier over his lack of first team football. If he's available (and would agree to come here) he's a similar style player to CC but will get you goals and doesn't spend a lot of the game on his backside waving his arms at the ref. He's strong, good at hold-up play, good in the air and not scared to have a pop at goal.
He's no Messi but could be our Hartson MkII
