It wasn't so much that I was making a point of how could they afford to turn down that sort of money, as you rightly say, they have been relatively "sensible" in the transfer market, but more a point of how ridiculously over-priced British players are.westham, eggyandchips wrote:Dont forget they were in the Prem for a good few seasons without going silly in the transfer market (unlike us 5-6 yrs ago) so they should have a few quid stashed away.

Forget this rubbish about 15 / 20 prem goals a season stuff, unless your a top four club!most teams are looking for a cf who can defend well, understand tactics, build up play and score goals. Goals are expected from most of the forward line and midfield (as well as the cb's).
We'll be looking for an all round forward at a decent price.

Yeah I'd rather spend 20 million on downing or 30 million on Ashley young.

From what I've seen of Matt Jarvis I'd say he isn't worth 10 million and I think that Wolves are taking the michael.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
I'd like to se us try and sign up Matt Philips @ Blackpool, he's got frightening pace and some of them tricky winger skills we need. Jarvis is a decent player but seem's to be way too expensive for us.

Matt Phillips is a good shout mate.Knaphill wrote:I'd like to se us try and sign up Matt Philips @ Blackpool, he's got frightening pace and some of them tricky winger skills we need. Jarvis is a decent player but seem's to be way too expensive for us.
Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
if we are looking at spending in the region of £10 mill on a winger then surely we should be looking at Adam Johnson...he's twice the player that Jarvis is, Johnson would be quality and can play either wing.

Good shout, I remember he impressed me during the playoffs.Knaphill wrote:I'd like to se us try and sign up Matt Philips @ Blackpool, he's got frightening pace and some of them tricky winger skills we need. Jarvis is a decent player but seem's to be way too expensive for us.
Is he a winger?

Triple the wages though.Syphalis wrote:if we are looking at spending in the region of £10 mill on a winger then surely we should be looking at Adam Johnson...he's twice the player that Jarvis is, Johnson would be quality and can play either wing.
Plus I hear he has his heart set on Sunderland as he supported them as a kid.

Re: Summer 2012 Transfer and Rumours Thread
Only problem is he'll never want to leave Man City unless he really has to, so for that reason I wouldn't see us buying him outright, but a loan bid might not sound so silly, whether or not he'd want to come to us is a different matter though.Syphalis wrote:if we are looking at spending in the region of £10 mill on a winger then surely we should be looking at Adam Johnson...he's twice the player that Jarvis is, Johnson would be quality and can play either wing.

Yes he is a winger mate and is only 21 years old and probably cheaper and probably on cheaper wages.Good shout, I remember he impressed me during the playoffs.
Is he a winger?

Adam Johnson will very possibly end up at Liverpool as a makeweight for Agger.
Matt Phillips, for the right money, remains a good shout.

Ince is the better of the two blackpool wingers.

TBH After the way young Ince ripped us apart at Wembley i am amazed we haven't made a move before now!
Matt Phillips is a good player but i believe that Ince would be a much better shout - despite the relationship with his father and the club

There may be better players for that kind of money, but at least Jarvis would join us.

I'd laugh my arse off if we signed Ince, the haters would have a coronary.
Academic anyway as he would never join us after the abuse his dad got. Would you?

I can't stand Paul Ince. He is a prick IMO. Anyone who booed his son is as big a prick as he is.Jackanakanory wrote:I'd laugh my arse off if we signed Ince, the haters would have a coronary.

I would love him Tom Ince here, he looks a real good player, but somehow I can't see it happening.

Agree with comments that Tom Ince is a good player too, but would he want to come here after the previous with his dad?
Personally I'd love to see him here.
