West Ham Utd 2 Fulham 1 (12/01/08)Moderator: Gnome Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match threadwasn't overly impressed with spector today. He tries hard, is good in the and tackle but never looks comfortable receiving the ball until the latter stages. Our defence looks a lot stronger with Neill in it. Neill obviously lacks pace but is a lot more composed on the ball and gets forward a lot more effectively.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match threadJust seen that youtube clip that there's a link to on the previous page. Highlight of the match has to be Niemi's save. That was truly stunning. Not often keepers get the plaudits but he deserves them for that.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread6-0 now. Shame they've not got a manager to protest against now, whinging gits.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
Indeed, and the following season West Brom stayed up with 34 (having been bottom at Christmas).
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
I was actually right behind the ball..........one of the best saves I've seen in many a long year
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
Should have been 3-1 at least. Freddie MOM closely followed by Noble. Is it just me, or were there 2 Dean Ashtons out there today? One scored and was unlucky not to have a hat-trick, and the other couldn't be bothered to jump for headers and was falling over looking for free kicks instead. Not that I'm complaining, mind, imagine what he could achieve if he really tried.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match threadNoble did well this week, though at times he is still over-indulgent on the ball and doesn't release it quick enough. That's my only real criticism of the guy. Also thought Riley was poor as ref today, but then again when isn't he?
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
A few words on Spector's behalf: he's now played everywhere for us this season except in goal and up front. He hasn't set the world on fire, but he's been solid, dependable and resilient. Not many footballers these days would play out of position nearly every week without moaning like ****. I like Spector's attitude a lot.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
If big fat Sam was still there he would still have said they edged it and deserved to win
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match threadWas really pleased for Freddie today, thought he had an excellent day. Has come in for a lot of stick, but showed some real flashes of class, and the ball for Deano goal was great. Really great to see Faubert coming back. Blimey our bench look good today. Few more weeks and who knows where we might be with Bellamy, Zamora, and Nobby back playing. COYI
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
He's an invaluable member of the squad, I can't understand people wanting to sell him.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match threadWhat was the atmosphere like at the boleyn?
Would be interested to know bering in mind we it was a london derby, good performance and 3 points???
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
Has anyone said we should sell him? He's done a great job. It's important to have players like him. People forget how young he is.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match threadFreddie was good going forward in the second half but defensively he did **** all and exposed Spector badly. A half decent team would have made us pay for that.
He was playing so central in the first half i couldnt believe it. Great win though well done boys.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
Final score - 6-0 to Man Utd. Get in. Now all we need is for Bolton to do a job on Blackburn and Sunderland to turn over Pompey and the weekend will be complete.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
The atmosphere was better. There were moments when the crowd were up for it but that was once it was 1-1. When we were 1 down every pass was booed and moaned at. At every game you can just predict how the crowd will react. I also think Tom Watts (think thats his name) was spot on, in his programme notes today about sitting down and now being spectators. ...The performance was ok, we were not brilliant but then it didnt look as if we had to be as Fulham are complete *****. No creativity, an awful back 4 and a very average forward line. Their goal was lucky and they didnt really have any incentive on looking for a second goal. They looked happy to sit back and defend a one goal lead. We just did enough really, but then this sort of performance wouldnt guarantee a win against most teams.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match threadIn contrast to some of the previous posters, I thought Mullins and Noble were poor today. Both giving the ball away too easily and also (particularly Noble) too slow to move the ball around, so either getting caught in possession themselves or giving Fulham time to close down space. Though Noble did very well to get to the ball for the second goal. Etherington was also poor today. Freddie however was very good once he got going. He also started slowly, but once he'd whipped that cross in for the goal, he played by far the best stuff he's done for us. Maybe the sight of Faubert on the bench stirred him into action? Or was it the bang in the face? Let's hope it doesn't give him another migraine.
I felt we were off the pace today, and were fortunate that Fulham are utter *****. Having said that we somehow managed to conjure up a number of decent attempts at goal. Did Cole pick up a knock? Cos hes seemed to suddenly go very flat in the second half before being subbed. Prior to that he'd done well - some good flicks off the head and good control with his back to goal. What a pity that he didn't convert when right through.
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
-12 goal difference as well
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
Embarassingly, Fulham got away with a 'shall we sing a song for you'
Re: West Ham Utd v Fulham: match thread
I thought the atmosphere was alright today.
